About The Position

This position is responsible for semi-skilled work in a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment within the Parks Maintenance division of the City’s Recreation and Economic Vitality department. The employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Responsible for general maintenance and construction work required to keep up appearance and safety of Recreation and Economic Vitality facilities and grounds.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months of experience in maintenance, repair, and/or construction work.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or any valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Operates front end deck mowers, turf tractors, backhoe, chain saws, and other power equipment.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs departmental equipment.
  • Assists in ground and building maintenance as well as landscaping duties.
  • Assists supervisors in planning and organizing work.
  • Assists supervisors in training unskilled laborers.
  • Organizes and sets up daily work assignments.
  • Assists with the installation of trench shoring equipment.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
