The City of Richmond Hill Fire Department offers a DoW SkillBridge firefighter training program for eligible transitioning military service members. The program prepares participants to perform fire suppression and emergency rescue services and supports their transition into a civilian firefighting career through training, mentoring, and job placement support. Participants may also be evaluated for suitability for future employment with the City. The training program lasts 13 weeks and runs Monday through Friday, 0800–1600. Training outcomes include NPQ Firefighter 1, NPQ Hazmat Awareness, NPQ Hazmat Operations, and NPQ Firefighter 2 certifications. SkillBridge participation requires approval from the service member’s unit commander and may be terminated by the service if mission requirements dictate.
