About The Position

A ski instructor is a skilled professional dedicated to teaching individuals and groups how to ski/snowboard safely and effectively. They play a crucial role at Bousquet Mountain helping participants of all ages and abilities build confidence, develop techniques, and enjoy the excitement of skiing. Beyond teaching, ski instructors serve as ambassadors of the mountain, ensuring guests not only improve their skills but also have memorable and enjoyable experiences. Bousquet Ski Instructors typically work in an alpine environment and are often exposed to cold, wind, snow, and variable weather conditions. Most of the workday is spent outdoors, either on beginner slopes, intermediate runs, or advanced terrain, depending on lesson assignments. Instructors may also spend time indoors for administrative tasks, lesson planning, or staff meetings. The job often requires early mornings, weekend shifts, and extended hours during peak holiday periods. Flexibility and a passion for winter sports are essential attributes for success.

Requirements

Advanced/expert skiing ability, capable of demonstrating all levels of technique and navigating varied terrain and conditions.
National or international ski instructor certification (such as PSIA, CSIA, BASI, or equivalent), with ongoing education encouraged.
Current first aid and CPR certification along with knowledge of mountain safety protocols is highly valued.
Excellent verbal communication for giving instructions, feedback, and maintaining student engagement.
Good overall health and stamina to withstand cold temperatures, altitude, and physical activity throughout the workday.
Multilingual ability is an asset, especially in resorts with international guests.
Ability to remain patient and positive when working with students of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Willingness to work collaboratively with other instructors and resort staff, sharing knowledge and supporting a cohesive team environment.
Must be 14 years of age as of Nov 1, 2026.
Must be helpful, friendly, courteous, and professional in accordance with Bousquet Mountain’s commitment to providing superior customer service.
Treats each lesson recipient as an important individual when providing instruction.

Responsibilities

Deliver clear, structured ski lessons to students ranging from beginners to advanced skiers.
Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, ages, and skill levels.
Prioritize the safety of all participants by enforcing resort rules, monitoring weather and slope conditions, and teaching proper techniques for injury prevention.
Evaluate each student’s abilities and progress, providing constructive feedback to foster improvement.
Adjust lesson plans and objectives based on student progress and needs.
Exhibit correct form and technique, providing visual examples for students to emulate.
Model safe skiing practices at all times.
Create a positive, supportive learning environment that encourages students to challenge themselves and celebrate achievements.
Assist students with proper selection, fitting, and use of ski equipment, including boots, skis, poles, snowboards, and safety gear.
Be prepared to act quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including administering first aid, contacting ski patrol, and ensuring the well-being of all students under their care.
Maintain clear and friendly communication with students, parents, and resort staff.
Provide updates and lesson summaries as needed.
Keep current with industry trends, teaching techniques, and safety standards.
Participate in ongoing training and PSIA/AASI certification programs.
Represent the resort and the Ski and Ride School with professionalism and courtesy, addressing questions, concerns, and special requests from guests.
Effectively manage groups of varying sizes, ensuring individual attention while maintaining group cohesion and safety.
Possess thorough knowledge of the ski area, including trail maps, lift operations, and local terrain features.
Skiing mastery of turns, carving, moguls, powder, and—if teaching children or adaptive programs—skiing with tethers or other aids.
Clear demonstration, breakdown of complex maneuvers, and the ability to adapt teaching to individual needs.
Quick thinking and resourcefulness to address challenges, from weather changes to equipment issues or group dynamics.
Ability to lead and inspire confidence, particularly in group settings or with nervous beginners.
Understanding student frustrations and fears and responding with encouragement and support.
Punctuality and efficiency in keeping lessons on schedule, organizing group activities, and managing multiple sessions per day.
All Bousquet Mountain employees are required to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of their assigned department, particularly during peak periods.
