About The Position

The patient sitter, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, keeps the patient safe from harm. This role involves observing the patient, maintaining a safe environment, and providing care that does not interfere with continuous visual contact. The sitter accompanies patients for clinical tests or procedures off the unit, remaining within arm's length unless otherwise directed. They may monitor two patients in the same room, ensuring an unobstructed view, and are responsible for preserving patient dignity. The sitter must demonstrate the knowledge and skill to provide appropriate observation for patients requiring AvaSure monitoring and ensure patient safety by removing potentially harmful objects. Activities are determined by Nursing Department policies and unit requirements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Ability to communicate effectively, required.

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate observation to the patient population requiring AvaSure monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Observe the patient and maintain a safe environment.
• As delegated by the nurse, may provide care to the patient that does not interfere with the ability to maintain continuous visual contact.
• Accompany the patient for any clinical tests or procedures off the unit, remaining within an arm’s length distance of the patient unless otherwise directed.
• May be assigned to monitor two patients in the same room, positioning to maintain an unobstructed view of both patients.
• Ensure that the patient’s dignity is preserved.
• Provide for patient safety by removing potentially harmful objects or contraband from patient and environment.
• Perform related duties, as required.
