About The Position

Kent School Services Network (KSSN) brings health and human services into the school building to serve children and families. The initiative goals are to increase support for students, families, and schools; increase access to health, mental health, and community resources; increase parent/community engagement and involvement; to promote opportunities that support student’s educational, social and emotional development; and to offload the non-education issues from the principal and teachers to allow them time to focus on educating the children. The Team Clinician focuses on meeting the mental health needs of the children and families by providing in home or outpatient therapy and/or connecting families to other mental health resources that best meets their need. These issues can include depression, anxiety, child abuse effects, harming oneself, slowness in learning, eating disorders, phobias, aggression and other symptoms or difficulties in behavior and feelings. The Clinician helps children assess their issues by observing their behaviors and assessing what treatments will best benefit the child. The KSSN Site Team Clinician provides two levels of services and acts as a Network 180 Access center to refer to others. The KSSN Site Team Clinician provides both outpatient and home-based services to clients that are referred. Group therapy is also utilized as needed. The STC may also be involved with the school’s Attendance Team and Community School Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related field.
  • Licensed to practice therapy in the state of Michigan or actively working towards licensure.
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school culture.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and other software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community partners and schools as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record and adequate insurance with a car available at all times.
  • Provides direct behavioral health services to include intake assessment, individual/family/group therapy, and crisis interventions to students and document encounters in the appropriate clinical record.
  • Manage a mixed caseload of Outpatient and Home-Based services.
  • Provides services both on-site at the school facility and off-site to include the client’s home support network.
  • Utilize a variety of treatment models best fit to a client’s individual needs.
  • Ability to work with school, human service, behavioral health, and medical health personnel.
  • Ability to understand and work effectively within the dynamics of various agencies, public schools, and others.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people both within and outside the Agency. Must promote a positive image for the Agency in the community and in relationships with other agencies and their personnel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of differing lifestyles and cultures, experience or training in work with children or adults, understanding and knowledge of clinical issues of foster and adopted children and families, training or practice in individual or group counseling, interviewing, family assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the client’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Become familiar with and follow the code of ethics for your profession and agree to abide by the related agency standards.
  • A demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and understanding of child development and child management.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources. Assertiveness, flexibility, self-organization, and self-direction.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, counsel, educate, advocate for, and support referred children and families.
  • Complete all necessary Agency, CMH, and other miscellaneous paperwork requirements within deadlines per program and contract requirements.
  • Able to meet clients and their families in non-traditional settings, i.e. client’s home, restaurant, or public places.
  • Meet with clients a minimum of required contacts per month as set by contract and program requirements (Work closely with the KSSN Community School Coordinator to meet the needs of the school as deemed appropriate by school staff and supervisor.
  • Complete nonbillable contact hours per week in your school building per KSSN contract.
  • Provides direct service to include intake, assessment, individual/family therapy, and crisis interventions to client’s and provide proper and timely documentation of these services in the client record.
  • Manages a mixed caseload of Outpatient, Outpatient Bundle, Case Management, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (as certified), and Home-Based services and maintain monthly unit expectations for each service as deemed by contract and program requirements
  • Provides services both on-site at the school facility and off-site to include the client’s home support network per caseload requirements as deemed by program
  • Maintain monthly contact with all parents/guardians of each client.
  • Completes initial treatment plans, treatment plan updates, treatment authorizations, quarterly reports, and discharge summaries within required deadlines.
  • Participate in family education, training, and support group activities when needed. Utilize a variety of treatment models, skills, and interventions that best fit a client’s individual needs and/or family’s needs.
  • Participate in required case-related activities such as school conferences and court hearings.
  • Agency-related duties include required attendance at team meetings, cooperation with other departments within the Agency, timely completion of agency documents (to include expense voucher, ADP weekly time record and PTO, Outlook Calendar, etc., monthly data, etc.).
  • Rotate the 24 hour / seven day a week on-call cell phone on an ongoing basis with fellow Site Team Clinicians and Behavioral Health Staff. While on call: Will cover the on-call phone Friday to Friday, 24 hours o Will be within 1 hour of Network 180 o Will remain drug and alcohol free
  • Staff will be accessible, maintaining flexible hours, seven days a week. If staff is unavailable, they will arrange for a team member or supervisor to be available for clients
  • It is expected that Therapists will work at least 40 hours per week prior to requesting compensatory time
  • Staff members may be assigned to assist with other duties by the administration ▪ Examples include: speeches, public relations and promotions, recruitment, special committees or task forces, or work with the agency’s committees
  • Complete a minimum of 24 child and family focused training hours per calendar year o Other responsibilities shall include those set forth in DABSJ personnel policies as amended
