About The Position

This position supports Protective Services within SecurTec's Physical Security division, serving as the on-site leader-in-charge for security operations at City of Columbia facilities, including the Rapid Shelter and seasonal Overflow / Winter Shelter operations. The role combines hands-on supervision, trauma-informed service, and continuous accountability across a 24/7 operation supporting vulnerable populations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive security supervisory experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in shelter, transitional housing, behavioral health, or similar trauma-informed environments
  • Proven ability to lead multi-shift 24/7 teams while maintaining a calm, professional, and service-oriented presence
  • Strong working knowledge of access control, search procedures, and de-escalation techniques with vulnerable populations
  • Current South Carolina SLED Security Officer Registration in good standing
  • South Carolina SLED Firearms Certification / Permit (if performing armed duties)
  • CPR / First Aid / AED and Handle with Care (or equivalent trauma-informed de-escalation) certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated report-writing ability
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site Leader in Charge during assigned shifts and provide roving supervisory oversight across days, evenings, and overnights
  • Oversee resident, staff, and visitor check-in processes, controlled access, full searches of individuals and belongings, and proper confiscation and storage of prohibited items
  • Ensure all security interactions remain non-confrontational and grounded in trauma-informed principles
  • Conduct daily shift briefings, post inspections, performance coaching, and real-time corrective action with all Armed and Unarmed Security Officers
  • Manage daily activity logs, incident reports, search documentation, and shift handovers for submission to the Project Manager and City staff
  • Lead on-site emergency response, medical calls, behavioral incidents, and rapid activation and demobilization of the Overflow / Winter Shelter facilities (November 1 – April 1)
  • Deliver and document ongoing training in de-escalation, search techniques, SLED compliance, and trauma-informed care
  • Perform weekly quality assurance audits of logs, equipment, and post orders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for City staff during incidents and coordinate immediate resolution
  • Maintain full compliance with SLED registration requirements, City policies, and contract deliverables
  • Support the Project Manager with scheduling, timekeeping, performance evaluations, and monthly reporting
