Site Safety Manager

GlydwaysAtlanta, GA

About The Position

Glydways is seeking a Site Safety Manager to lead the site safety management system for the Glydways Atlanta ATN Pilot Project. This role is crucial for ensuring safety across all phases of the project, including construction, integration and testing, commissioning, operations with passenger service, maintenance, modification, recovery, and emergency response. The Site Safety Manager will report directly to the Atlanta ATN Pilot Project Director for site delivery and coordination, and functionally to the Glydways Safety Lead for safety direction, competence, and assurance. This independent role involves performing site safety audits, restricting access or return to service, stopping work or service, and escalating imminent hazards. The Site Safety Manager is accountable for the occupational safety of all personnel on site, including Glydways employees, the operating organization, contractors, and visitors, as well as for the hazards introduced by the automated transit system. Key responsibilities include OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, PPE, work permits, access control, and managing simultaneous work controls. The role requires understanding and implementing Operational Limitations and Safety Related Application Conditions (SRACs) from the Safety Case, maintaining the ATL Site Hazard Log, and verifying control effectiveness. Collaboration with Quality to establish and enforce site safety SOPs, reviewing system faults with maintenance staff, and managing the FRACAS process are also key. The Site Safety Manager will own incident notification, investigation, and corrective actions, report safety performance, lead emergency preparedness, and provide safety inputs to operational readiness.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Senior safety-management experience across construction, system integration and testing, commissioning, passenger operations, and maintenance.
  • Experience in public transportation, automated transit, rail fixed guideway, or another high-consequence system.
  • Competence in Safety Management Systems, risk management and assurance, hazard and SRAC tracking, FRACAS, corrective actions, and independent auditing.
  • Incident-management experience covering notification, evidence preservation, investigation, root cause analysis, reporting, and effectiveness checks.
  • Emergency-preparedness experience covering incident command, evacuation and rescue, fire and life safety, responder coordination, drills, and exercises.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA reporting, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, construction and contractor safety, and simultaneous-work controls.
  • Independent judgment to stop work or service, restrict unsafe activities, and escalate unresolved concerns.
  • Clear communication with workers, passengers, contractors, technical teams, leadership, authorities, and emergency responders.
  • Ability to work with Quality to control site safety SOPs, maintain the ATL Site Hazard Log, verify controls, and conduct regular audits.
  • Available onsite and able to complete training and certification required by approved pilot plans, the site safety program, and applicable GDOT requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying GDOT State Safety Oversight, FTA Safety Management System/State Safety Oversight, or comparable transit-safety frameworks.

  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, PPE, work permits, access control, and the controls required wherever construction, testing, and passenger service take place at the same time.
  • Understand Operational Limitations and Safety Related Application Conditions (SRACs) established in the Safety Case and own their site implementation, communication, verification, and enforcement.
  • Create, maintain, and update the ATL Site Hazard Log, and verify that every hazard control is implemented and effective through regular inspections, independent audits, and follow up.
