About The Position

The Site Safety Manager is responsible for the safe and accident-free operation of their site. This includes identifying any potential safety hazards and implementing plans to prevent these dangers.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Hazards Administration) regulations and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal laws, local ordinances, and other rules and regulations associated with facility and employee safety and security.
  • Competent to implement site specific safety procedures; i.e.; Hazard Communication, Process Safety Management, Electrical Safety, Emergency Management plan, etc.
  • Must complete a physical fitness test to wear a respirator (if applicable) and any required safety equipment necessary to perform these duties.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires competency with software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint with ability to download, manipulate and report data. Ability to learn other programs including Caribou, OPS32, MP-2 and Triple-I database software.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills (verbal, presentation and listening) to interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies at the plant during off hours and weekends.
  • Certified on first-aid and CPR.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational or environmental health strongly preferred.
  • Experience in developing and coordinating safety programs and delivering safety training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and administers the Site Heath, Safety, environmental and Security Program for multiple locations.
  • Investigates unsafe conditions and incidents, performs plant safety, security and environmental inspections and coordinates the corrective actions towards resolution.
  • Ensure sites of responsibilities comply with Federal, State, Local & Veolia’s Health & Safety Standards.
  • Recognize potential hazards and risks by implementing daily, weekly, monthly walkthroughs.
  • Conduct Monthly Safety Inspection Reports and track findings to closure.
  • Report hazards and regulatory concerns to Project Managers & Regional VP of Operations.
  • Ensure that all employees, subcontractors/vendors and visitors comply with applicable Veolia’s H&S policies & procedures.
  • Complete, track and investigate incident/injury reports, near misses.
  • Conduct root cause analysis investigations and develop corrective actions for all incidents.
  • Develop and review site-specific safety related written SOPs and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Ensure H&S files (documentation) are maintained to include training records, equipment inspection logs, industrial hygiene evaluations, and procedures certifications.
  • Be accessible and visible to the employee population by monitoring, evaluating and addressing employee safety concerns and issues.
  • Coordinate and monitor monthly site safety committee meetings.
  • Deliver and distribute employee safety training requirements, safety alerts and monthly awareness.
  • Communications, concerns and suggestions.
  • Provide new employee and contractor safety orientations.
  • Ensure compliance and monitor requirements with the Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard.
  • Coordinate site specific emergency planning programs. Develop and review site emergency programs (fire, hurricane, chemical spills, etc.).
  • Implement fire and emergency drills.
  • Participates and coordinates all visits of federal, state and insurance inspectors and follows up on their recommendations.
