About The Position

The Korte Company is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) willing to travel up to 100% for commercial/government construction projects to maintain safety for every aspect of the project. The first project is based at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA. Safety is critical to the success of our construction projects and this position will be the key person responsible for adherence to our safety standards. The ideal candidate will provide proactive, visible leadership in developing the safety culture on the project site.

Requirements

  • 30 hour OSHA certification training within last 5 years
  • Proof of 8 hours or more of formal safety training each year for the last 5 years (must be able to provide dates and hours)
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • 24 hour Competent Person for Fall Protection training that complies with EM 385-1-1 section 21 (Current within 2 years)
  • Certificate of training on the following: Excavations, Scaffolding, Fall protection, Hazardous energy, Confined space, Health Hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, multi-tasking, communication and conflict management skills
  • Computer knowledge in sending emails, daily reports, construction look-ahead schedules, and iPad use
  • Strong work ethic with a passion to fulfill commitments

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to speak Spanish is a plus
  • Corp of Engineers EM 385-1-1 experience
  • Experience on large ground-up; DOD/USACE; vertical projects of 15M+ preferred
  • BCSP certification as a Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document daily safety and health inspections
  • Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports
  • Maintain safety reference materials on the jobsite
  • Attend all preparatory and periodic in-progress meetings
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements and inspections
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation
  • Lead on-site safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Perform project hazard analysis and maintain hazard communication programs
  • Verify safety training of all workers
