About The Position

The Fast-Track Apprenticeship Program – Site Reliability Engineer (Agentic Ai) is a full-time, permanent, 100% on-site role in Montréal, QC. This program is designed for driven recent graduates ready to launch their careers at the frontier of AI-driven system design and enterprise technology. It combines hands-on client project work with dedicated learning, building architectural range and technical depth progressively. The role focuses on keeping hybrid, AI-ready infrastructure resilient, secure, and cost-accountable long after go-live. Apprentices will work at the core of SIA’s Hybrid Infrastructure studio, focusing on Hybrid & Resilient Cloud, Identity Lifecycle Management, and IT Automation & FinOps. The primary outcome is infrastructure that heals itself, secures itself, and justifies its own cost with fewer manual interventions and clearer financial accountability. Beyond project responsibilities, apprentices are expected to invest a minimum of an additional 8 hours per week in structured internal learning across cognitive skills, interpersonal development, industry knowledge, and technical expertise. Staying current with the evolving landscape of AI and enterprise technology is a core expectation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA required.
  • Systems thinking applied to infrastructure: the ability to decompose availability, security, and cost requirements into concrete architecture and automation decisions.
  • Exposure to IBM Power Systems, IBM Cloud, and Red Hat OpenShift / OpenShift Virtualization; container orchestration and hybrid workload placement.
  • Understanding of identity governance and zero-trust principles; familiarity with concepts such as IBM Security Verify, HashiCorp Vault, and just-in-time credentials.
  • Scripting and infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Terraform, Packer); familiarity with cloud cost management/FinOps concepts (e.g. Apptio, Cloudability, Kubecost, Turbonomics).
  • Using LLMs and AI agents to accelerate automation script generation, incident diagnostics, and runbook creation; writing clear, unambiguous prompts that function as executable operational artifacts.
  • Specifying what infrastructure and agents must expose for monitoring, debugging, and continuous improvement (e.g. IBM Instana, IBM Concert).
  • Network security concepts (NGFW, zero-trust segmentation), cloud workload protection.
  • IBM Cloud or AWS, object storage, and foundational deployment concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and communication platforms such as Webex or Slack.
  • Full professional bilingualism in French and English, spoken and written, is required.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills: the ability to distill complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives for any audience.
  • Consistent, reliable delivery against milestones and deadlines.
  • Proactive, outcome-oriented communication with clients, project leads, and senior stakeholders.
  • Discipline, organisation, and time management across concurrent priorities- personal agility.
  • Demonstrate integrity: you say what you mean and consistently do what you say.
  • Emotionally intelligent — self-aware, empathetic, interpersonally sensitive, and composed under pressure.
  • Bring a creative mindset grounded in business and technology context, going beyond conventional solutions.
  • Lead by attitude and behavior, not by title.
  • Purposeful agility focused on impact not just work.
  • Relationship building and networking.
  • A structured problem-solver: you navigate complex, open-ended challenges with no predefined answer.
  • A strategic thinker: you connect business context to technology possibilities.
  • A multi-threaded thinker: you hold and advance several lines of analysis at once.
  • An agile learner: you absorb new tools, frameworks, and domain knowledge quickly.
  • Intellectually resilient: you sustain rigorous thinking in high-intensity, fast-moving environments.
  • A systems thinker: you understand how the components of a business or technology ecosystem interact and influence one another.
  • Willingness to continuously invest in your personal growth (which will require time outside of regular business hours for keeping current, learning, networking, team building, client/partner events and other corporate social activities).
  • Readiness for irregular hours and occasional travel (including overnight stays) to accommodate client expectations and deadlines.
  • Ensure that you have the personal agility to adapt to unplanned needs and unexpected shifts in priorities; this comes with taking ownership over business outcomes (not output).
  • Be “on call”, i.e. available in the event of client or project emergencies (yes, even during personal time off!).
  • Plan vacations and time-off (maximum 2 consecutive weeks) within designated summer and winter slow-down periods and outside of our blackout periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Identify automation opportunities across the infrastructure lifecycle and translate them into Ansible playbooks, Terraform modules, and Packer image pipelines.
  • Leverage Generative AI and prompt engineering to accelerate the creation of automation scripts, infrastructure-as-code, and incident runbooks.
  • Build reusable automation and identity-governance patterns for SIA’s internal library of intellectual property.
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives developing new SIA methodologies for AI-ready infrastructure and agentic runtime security.
  • Conduct applied research on emerging hybrid cloud, zero-trust, and FinOps practices to enhance SIA’s service offerings.
  • Support the onboarding of new team members into SIA’s tools, processes, and culture.
  • Maintain an active professional presence through IBM TechXchange communities, industry meetups, and networking events.
  • Lead infrastructure resiliency posture assessments with client stakeholders, evaluating environments across key resilience dimensions before any technology decision is made.
  • Translate client compliance, security, and continuity requirements into concrete identity governance and access policies (e.g. IBM Security Verify, HashiCorp Vault).
  • Maintain system and identity boundary documentation that clearly defines what is automated, what is governed, and who owns what at every stage.
  • Partner with client stakeholders to manage expectations, coordinate activities, and keep all parties informed throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Manage end-to-end project delivery coordination for infrastructure and automation engagements: tasks, communications, dependencies, and progress reporting through to client sign-off.
  • Support technical leads by managing schedules, tracking task interdependencies, and preparing progress reports.
  • Contribute to business development through discovery meetings, client presentations, and proposal development.
  • Guide new team members through SIA's culture, ways of working, and professional standards.
  • Develop your professional brand through LinkedIn activity and IBM/Red Hat/Palo Alto/HashiCorp partner community engagement.
  • Participate in SIA corporate events, IBM/Red Hat/Palo Alto/HashiCorp/Arrow learning sessions, client relationship activities, and industry conferences.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly Cool Stuff to Know presentations on hybrid cloud, zero-trust identity, and FinOps practices.
  • Participate actively in your assigned IBM TechXchange community and SIA studio sessions.
  • Contribute to infrastructure designs that are secure, cost-transparent, innovative, operationally viable, and built to last.
  • Engage in ongoing research and experimental development to refine SIA's infrastructure and reliability methodologies and service offerings.
  • Take shared ownership of business outcomes with your project team.
  • Manage project delivery end-to-end: activities, communications, and progress reporting.
