About The Position

GDIT is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to support enterprise IT operations and mission-essential communications. The role applies infrastructure as code, automation, and modern reliability practices to maintain highly available, resilient infrastructure. It includes supporting Splunk and Tableau integrated observability displays, deploying and optimizing Tableau Server across a multi-node high-availability cluster, and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Terraform for provisioning and securing compute, storage, and networking services across C2E providers. The engineer will improve delivery speed and reliability by preventing defective, insecure, or noncompliant code from reaching production; establishing and enforcing service-level objectives, indicators, and error-budget policies; and conducting blameless post-mortems. The position also tracks DORA metrics, supports stabilization sprints, maintains configuration accuracy and performance insights through CMDB and analytics data-collector monitoring, and develops technology-transfer and sustainment mechanisms as directed by the Government. The role provides technical support, performance monitoring, and engineering analysis for operational software and infrastructure. It also promotes efficient resource use through right-sized provisioning, lifecycle-based storage tiering, and identification of unused object storage for decommissioning, while integrating monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing into a unified observability framework tied to HelpNow system health indicators and performance objectives. Blue-green and canary deployment patterns are used to limit the impact of released changes. The position is onsite in Chantilly, Virginia, requires U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph clearance, and calls for a bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least eight years of related experience. Scheduled hours are 40 per week, with less than 10% travel required.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
  • Must currently possess a Top Secret SCI with Polygraph clearance; the posting also lists this clearance as one that must be obtainable.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Skills in complex systems, systems development, and systems management.

Responsibilities

  • Shorten delivery lead time and increase deployment frequency while protecting error budgets by preventing defective, insecure, or noncompliant code from reaching production.
  • Publish service-level objectives (SLOs) and service-level indicators (SLIs), enforce error-budget policies, and conduct blameless post-mortems with corrective actions and effectiveness verification.
  • Track DORA metrics monthly and run stabilization sprints when error budgets are depleted.
  • Develop mechanisms for technology transfer and sustainment from professional services or other platform contributors, as directed by the Government.
  • Monitor CMDB discovery schedules and performance analytics data-collector jobs; document validation and remediate issues through infrastructure as code (IaC) or standard operating procedures (SOPs), as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Tableau subject-matter experts to deploy and optimize Tableau Server on a multi-node, highly available cluster using IaC.
  • Use IaC and automation to maintain highly available, resilient infrastructure supporting mission-essential communications, including Splunk and Tableau observability displays.
  • Provide technical support, performance monitoring, and engineering analysis for operational software and infrastructure.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using IaC and configuration as code (CaC) with Terraform to provision, configure, and secure compute, storage, and networking services across C2E providers.
  • Use automated right-sized provisioning, lifecycle-based storage tiering, and scans for unused object storage to support decommissioning and operating efficiency.
  • Integrate centralized monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing into pipelines and create a unified observability framework tied to HelpNow system health indicators and performance objectives.
  • Apply blue-green and canary deployment patterns to control the impact of released changes.
