About The Position

The Component Plant Quality Manager is a staff-level leadership role responsible for leading the plant quality organization, delivering plant scorecard results, strengthening technical processes, and shaping the long-term quality strategy for the site. In this role, you will partner closely with Production, Engineering, Supplier Quality, and union representatives to ensure customer requirements, regulatory expectations, and GM quality systems are met while building a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement across the plant. This leader is expected to operate at a level 8 people leader standard by translating strategy into clear direction, leading large cross-functional work, owning key performance outcomes, influencing across organizations, and building a strong team with the right talent, development, and accountability systems in place.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, or quality.
  • Significant experience in high-volume manufacturing, with strong knowledge of quality management systems, manufacturing processes, and production operations.
  • Prior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, including experience leading teams and driving results through others.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability, including use of structured methodologies such as Red X, OpEx, or Six Sigma.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and influencing skills.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes.

  • Launch experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading quality operations in a high-volume propulsion, engine, machining, or component manufacturing site.
  • Multi-plant experience and demonstrated success strengthening employee engagement and team capability.
  • Strong understanding of GPS, GMS, and BIQ systems, with success using those systems to improve plant performance.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with internal customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams and strong partnerships with salaried and UAW-represented hourly team members.
  • Experience working with GM’s DRE, PET, and MEC teams; thermal management experience and demonstrated networking with the thermal group is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the plant Quality team, fostering collaboration, inclusion, transparency, and shared accountability across the organization.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, and union leadership to resolve quality issues, strengthen workforce engagement, and support a high-performing manufacturing culture.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership for launches, operational readiness, Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving.
  • Build organizational capability by developing talent, and guiding performance and development planning for the Quality organization.
  • Serve as a plant quality leader for customer satisfaction, including Fast Response, customer complaints, SPPS, PRTS, and related escalation processes.
  • Lead the plant through external audits and customer-facing quality reviews, ensuring strong audit readiness, traceability, and confidence in plant quality systems.
  • Oversee PPAP approvals, launch readiness, and change control processes that protect product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure effective oversight of supplier quality, warranty-related problem solving, and plant-to-corporate quality communication.
  • Champion BPD, BIQ, layered audits, GMS basketweave activities, problem solving, and continuous improvement efforts through Red-X and OpEx that improve quality performance and reduce cost.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews tied to scrap, cost reduction, spill tracking, lessons learned, and recurrence prevention.
  • Use data, metrics, and operational reviews to identify risks early, prioritize the highest-impact actions, and improve plant quality results.
  • Escalate risks candidly, lead difficult cross-functional discussions with clarity, and keep teams focused on facts, solutions, and enterprise outcomes.
  • Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise concerns, share ideas, and challenge assumptions in support of better decisions and stronger quality outcomes.
  • Lead the execution of plant quality priorities with speed, discipline, and sound judgment, adjusting resources and focus as conditions change.
  • Own delivery of key quality, safety, cost, and operational metrics that align with GM strategic priorities and plant business needs.
  • Lead in a manner consistent with GM values, behaviors, and policies, with an uncompromising commitment to safety, ethics, transparency, and compliance.
  • Manage departmental budgets, workforce planning, and operational decisions responsibly and in support of plant and enterprise objectives.
  • Manage plant supplier quality, gage, warranty, and operations quality performance.
  • Deliver plant quality metrics including IPPM, PPM, scrap, and IPTV, using data to drive action, escalation, and improvement.
  • Lead Site Operational Excellence initiatives that support plant budget by identifying, prioritizing, and executing cost improvement actions without compromising safety, quality or customer requirements.
  • Maintain GMS BIQ4 readiness and compliance across the plant quality system.
  • Ensure PPAP approvals are completed on time and support disciplined launch and change management.
  • Lead people, WOC, and safety outcomes for the organization through clear expectations, development, and accountability.
