About The Position

This operational leadership role manages day-to-day IT operations for a growing organization in Spartanburg, SC. You'll oversee infrastructure operations and Tier III engineering while leading a team of 20+ IT professionals. This position requires both operational management and hands-on technical expertise, with responsibility for building effective teams, implementing scalable processes, and ensuring operational excellence across technical systems. The role combines tactical operational planning with direct involvement in technical operations, serving as the primary escalation point for your team while supporting broader IT leadership initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 7+ years of progressive experience within IT Operations with demonstrated success managing teams of 15+ professionals
  • Proven experience with direct people management including performance reviews, career development, and team building
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in infrastructure, servers, VMware, cloud technologies, and backup and recovery solutions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and system monitoring tools in production environments
  • Demonstrated success implementing operational improvements and leading teams through change in dynamic environments
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Data center industry experience and familiarity with data center IT operational requirements
  • Experience working within or supporting Network Operations Center (NOC) operations
  • Professional certifications in relevant technologies such as VMware, Microsoft Azure/365, or networking (CCNA/Network+)
  • Experience with ITIL or similar service management frameworks and practical application of IT service delivery best practices
  • Previous experience managing technical teams through organizational growth phases
  • Project management training or certifications (PMP, PRINCE2) demonstrating structured execution capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing an IT Operations team of 20+ professionals across infrastructure engineering and Tier III support, directly managing day-to-day team operations, staff development, performance management, and workload distribution
  • Providing operational leadership by implementing organizational structures, establishing team communication channels and reporting processes, and executing scalable processes that support departmental growth
  • Managing technical operations including implementation, maintenance, and optimization of servers, storage, VMware, Microsoft cloud technologies, and related infrastructure to ensure system reliability, performance, and availability
  • Supporting the Network Operations Center by coordinating monitoring activities, managing alert responses, facilitating issue resolution, and ensuring adherence to established playbooks and operational procedures
  • Serving as technical escalation point for complex technical issues, working hands-on with engineers on advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and timely incident resolution while maintaining technical currency
  • Managing operational budgets, team scheduling, resource allocation, and vendor relationships while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the team
  • Communicating technical status, project updates, and operational metrics to IT leadership and partnering with senior management to align team operations with organizational technology objectives
