As a Site Inspector, you will oversee and monitor municipal construction projects, ensuring work progress, quality standards, and safety compliance while coordinating with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders. The role involves detailed reporting, reviewing contractor claims, managing submittals, and mentoring junior team members. Candidates must have 5+ years of site inspection experience, a P.Eng license, strong technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, and proficiency in project documentation, surveying, and relevant software.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of local, and provincial building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • P.Eng with PEO.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of proven experience in a Site Inspection role is required.
  • Experience with working on linear municipal infrastructure projects (roads, water, sewers & storm) is required.
  • The candidate shall have a good eye for detail, and the ability to read/ understand contract drawings and specifications.
  • MTO Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Strong record keeping and problem-solving abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Contract Law including the Construction Lien Act.
  • Survey knowledge using total station and GPS technology.
  • Strong MS office.
  • Ability to work as part of a team of Site Inspectors, Contract Administrators, and Engineers in an open and sharing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
  • First Aid Training, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, OTM Book 7 etc., would be beneficial, however TYLIN will provide training as required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control progress of the work for municipal projects at an intermediate level.
  • Assist project Contract Administrator(s) with various administrative duties as required.
  • Prepare Detailed daily reports and record keeping.
  • Report on and provide assistance to the resolution of construction activities.
  • Attend site meetings, take meeting notes, and assist in the preparation of site meeting minute reports.
  • Monitor Contract quantities and assist in the preparation of Change Directives and Change Orders as needed.
  • Review and assess Contractor Claims and Extra Work Orders.
  • Coordinate and liaise between Clients, Contractors, and other agencies.
  • Management of responses to Contractor’s submittals, RFI’s and clarification requests.
  • Evaluate contractor performance to ensure project deliverables and quality standards are achieved.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status, site issues and project quality and resolve issues as required.
  • Collect as-constructed data.
  • Follow all construction safety procedures and policies including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Implement and monitor inspection procedures in accordance with professional, corporate and client guidelines.
  • Identify and manage deficiencies and warranty items.
  • Maintain tracking log.
  • Assist with schedule review, critical path, and delays.
  • Monitor contractor as-built records for accuracy and maintain an updated set of as-built drawings on site.
  • Daily presence on site for duration of construction works is required.
  • Ability to work extended hours as the project requires.
  • Mentor junior team members on the various facets of site inspection.
  • Complete all tasks accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
