About The Position

C&W Services is seeking a Safety Manager to lead the safety program for a site in Fort Dodge, IA. This role involves managing the safety team, fostering a strong safety culture, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial safety and experience in managing safety programs and personnel.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in an Industrial setting as a Safety Professional with managerial experience.
  • Possess a high school diploma or a certified GED.
  • Possess a 30-hour certification in general industry.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in safety or 9 total years of experience in the safety field without a degree.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Good facilitator skills with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively work with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and multitask.
  • Detailed knowledge of industrial mechanical applications/machinery, industrial insulation applications, scaffold building, general buildings/grounds maintenance, and janitorial processes.
  • Ability to observe details at close range.
  • Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required.
  • Ability to move for extended or continuous periods of time.
  • Ability to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools.
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts or other vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to wear a respirator while performing job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Create positive and productive working relationships with local leadership team and the customer, maintaining an independent safety function.
  • Manage the site safety team and safety program.
  • Effectively communicate the safety culture, priorities, and site safety agenda to all organization levels.
  • Create safety awareness, participation, and recognition programs for all employees.
  • Manage site safety records, including employee training, incident reports, OSHA logs, and Workers Compensation cases.
  • Communicate and participate with the customer regarding incident reporting, safety program updates, and site-wide safety initiatives.
  • Interface with C&W Services staff and hourly personnel to ensure safety program expectations are met.
  • Ensure all team members are compliant with company/customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for Safety team members' performance and individual development plans.
  • Provide training and information to supervisors and employees on safety issues.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports for Health and Safety Metrics, including Site Scorecard, Observations, & Behaviors, to inform Leading & Lagging Indicator Reports.
  • Administer new hire orientation, OSHA 10-hour, weekly safety training/meetings, and classroom & field equipment training.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
  • Develop occupational health and safety systems, including policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Document safety inspections, cite dangerous areas/procedures, recommend corrective actions, and maintain safety equipment supplies.
  • Manage and investigate all minor or major incidents, study possible causes, and make recommendations.
  • Ensure follow-up actions are taken to prevent re-occurrences using the 'Root Cause Analysis' method.
  • Participate in RCA/incident reviews with customers.
  • Compile and submit incident reports required by regulatory agencies and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Maintain a consistent and good attendance record.
  • Report to regional management and account manager on the status of occupational health and safety programs.
  • Oversee the site mentoring program.
  • Able to travel and support other sites.
  • Able to be part of the on-call rotation for safety issues.
  • Build trust, influence, and motivate others through personal and professional credibility.
  • Work with the Training Coordinator to maintain complete and accurate OSHA-compliant safety training records.
  • Perform any and all other relevant duties assigned by the Account Manager.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe, accurate, timely, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Train site employees on safety training and education programs; demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Facilitate new employee health and safety orientations and manage/develop the material for these training classes.
  • Fill in for the Safety Manager in times of need.
  • Consultation with customer, physicians, work comp personnel & legal may be required.
  • Prepare and calibrate monitoring equipment to measure and control hazardous substances or conditions.
  • Comply with C&W SERVICES and Cargill policies.
  • Exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views.
  • Inspire and motivate others to perform well.
