About The Position

The Site Director provides leadership for one or more after-school childcare programs based on enrollment and operational needs. This role directly oversees larger enrollment sites and serves as a mentor and supervisor to Assistant Site Directors assigned to smaller sites. The Site Director ensures consistent program quality, staff development, regulatory compliance, and implementation of association-wide curriculum while fostering positive relationships with families, school partners, and staff.

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law – completion with passing grades of at least 12 (twelve) postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes. Units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum and a minimum of (2) two years of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  • Has a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited or approved college or university with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development and a minimum of (1) one year of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  • Three (3) additional units in Early Childhood Administration completed within six (6) months of starting the position.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  • For licensed programs, knowledge of California child care licensing regulations.
  • Ability to mentor staff.
  • Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  • Ability to work productively in teams, task forces and planning groups.
  • Demonstrate ability to create all activity calendars, snack menus and parent notifications in order to ensure program runs efficiently, smoothly, and that proper communication is occurring.
  • Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • All required online training must be completed before starting work.
  • Mandated reporting course completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  • Must have Health and TB clearance.
  • Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the daily operation of assigned large-enrollment sites and provides supervisory oversight to assigned Assistant Site Directors at smaller locations.
  • Trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates staff, including conducting regular check-ins and performance feedback.
  • Provides ongoing mentoring, coaching, and professional development support to Assistant Site Directors.
  • Ensures compliance with California Community Care Licensing regulations and YMCA policies across assigned sites.
  • Leads collaborative curriculum planning efforts and ensures consistent implementation across all supervised locations.
  • Oversees program planning, staffing models, and enrollment-based operational decisions.
  • Maintains strong relationships with parents, children, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Oversees accurate attendance, documentation, reporting, and administrative requirements.
  • Manages program budgets at assigned sites, including purchasing supplies and materials within budget guidelines.
  • Conducts site visits and operational check-ins at supervised locations to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Attends and leads staff meetings, trainings, family events, YMCA campaign activities, and special events as assigned.
  • Ensures a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that reflects YMCA values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on program needs.
