About The Position

The Site Director II, EHS is responsible for overseeing at least 5 to 9 classrooms and managing the delivery of direct services to children and families enrolled at the United Way-managed site. This role involves the effective implementation of relationship-based, family-centered services, providing leadership to center staff, ensuring compliance with state regulatory guidelines, and adhering to Head Start Performance Standards. The Site Director 2 is responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of operating procedures for the United Way-managed site. In collaboration with the Associate Director, EHSCCP, and consultants, this position assists in designing and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum according to UWM and Head Start Performance Standards guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, or in child development and family studies, early childhood special education, or elementary education (encompassing birth through kindergarten development and learning).
  • Florida Child Care Director Credential.
  • 9 credit hours in leadership, management, and administration (to be completed within the first year of employment).
  • Must meet federal and state requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in written and oral communication, leadership, organization, and supervision.
  • At least one year of experience as a program administrator or service area specialist.
  • Beginning Internet Explorer proficiency.
  • Intermediate Word proficiency.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency.
  • Intermediate Outlook proficiency.
  • Training in Andar will be required at the time of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure faculty understand and implement the selected curriculum, following UWMD and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Model exemplary performance in all areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect towards diverse populations.
  • Oversee the implementation and coordination of childcare and family support services in collaboration with EHS-CCP Partnership members.
  • Review program and child assessment data for program planning.
  • Ensure accuracy and currency of information included in EHS-CCP monthly reports to funders and UW.
  • Ensure program design and management systems support reflective practice and supervision.
  • Execute the EHS-CCP grant and its goals under the guidance of the Implementation Manager.
  • Ensure recruitment and orientation meet all performance standards.
  • Interview and hire staff according to EHS HR guidelines and with assistance from supervisory, classroom personnel, and parent representatives.
  • Ensure regular staff observations and feedback sessions are conducted.
  • Utilize reflective supervision techniques with all staff, including progressive counseling as needed, ensuring adherence to UWM, EEOC, federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Develop strategies to support retention and team building through center communication systems and faculty leadership meetings.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately.
  • Implement the UWM Performance Management Process.
  • Manage staff, consumer, and general public grievances according to policies and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with the UWM HR Department.
  • Model positive and professional interactions toward parents.
  • Maintain the parent master file, update weekly statistics, and provide tours.
  • Ensure program-specific staff goals are met by maintaining waiting lists, filling open slots, enrolling families, and providing orientation to new families.
  • Convene a Center Committee of parents and community representatives.
  • Elicit parent participation in the Policy Council.
  • Increase family engagement in all programs in collaboration with the Family Engagement Supervisor.
  • Adhere to and instruct faculty on Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing requirements.
  • Follow UWMD Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all accidents and incidents are documented and reported as necessary.
  • Ensure the center is clean, safe, and child-ready at all times, with attention to displays and environment.
  • Monitor the maintenance of facility, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and model a professional work ethic.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of development for children aged 0-3.
  • Attend community meetings, training, or events.
  • Positively project UWMD’s mission, goals, philosophies, and policies.
  • Stay informed about trends and research in the early childhood field.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and respectful relationships with co-workers.
  • Lead and supervise the teaching team through communication, collaboration, and discussion of individual children's needs and curriculum planning.
  • Substitute in classrooms to maintain ratios and gain exposure.
  • Develop strong relationships with M-DCPS staff.
  • Supervise all Center staff.
  • Exercise independent judgment daily, understanding the relationship between MDCPS and UWM.
  • Keep the VP, CFEEE, Senior Director, EHS CCP & Quality Assurance Manager informed of all incidents.
