About The Position

HDR is seeking a Site Civil Engineer (PE) for its Building Engineering Services Business Group in Indianapolis, Indiana. The role involves designing facility-related sites, initially focusing on the Data Center market, with potential expansion to other markets like Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, and Sports & Recreation. The engineer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team throughout project lifecycles, from planning and construction documents to administration. Experience in land development and site civil design (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, erosion control) is essential. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, collaborative, possesses strong leadership skills, and is committed to delivering high-quality, technically sound designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in land development and the design of facility-related sites (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in general civil engineering
  • Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates for site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and other civil engineering tasks.
  • Perform calculations for site development, including stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, and hydrology.
  • Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects, and serve as the Engineer of Record on non-complex projects.
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
  • Author technically sound, grammatically correct, and well-organized reports.
  • Contribute to the development of civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposals.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources for due diligence research and documentation.
  • Understand and meet jurisdictional requirements, support the Pre-Application process, and coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction for design and submittal requirements.
  • Transition concept plans through schematic and construction design processes.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants for support and design services.
  • Attend and contribute to client meetings.
  • Use engineering judgment to determine the best course of action.
  • Be independent in the pursuit of information and solutions.
  • Manage time and organization of multiple tasks/projects.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and team members.
  • Pursue efficiencies within work and operations.
  • Mentor junior staff and delegate appropriate tasks.
  • Act as an advocate for HDR, the BES Business Group, and the Site Civil team.
  • Perform other tasks that support the mission and vision of HDR and the BES Business Group.
