About The Position

The Sit Down Forklift Operator operates and maintains a sit-down forklift to support warehouse operations. The role focuses on safely and efficiently moving pallets and materials, loading and unloading trailers, organizing inventory, and accurately documenting movements and loads. The operator performs daily equipment inspections, follows safe refueling or charging procedures, and helps maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment. The position requires reliable attendance, effective teamwork and communication, and flexibility to accommodate changing assignments and schedules. The employee primarily works in a warehouse and may encounter dust, hot or cold temperatures, and moderate to high noise levels. Steel-toed boots and other personal protective equipment are required.

Requirements

Proficiency in operating a sit-down forklift.
Pass PLA's forklift certification test; on-site certification is provided if needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products for electronic documentation, if applicable.
Strong attention to detail for accurate counts and documentation.
Commitment to safety guidelines and procedures.
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Dependable and punctual attendance.
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment and to stand, walk, bend, and stoop as needed.
Ability to perform light to moderate physical tasks, including occasional lifting or maneuvering of materials if required.
Good manual dexterity and foot coordination for operating forklift controls.
Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions, equipment sounds, and safety alarms in a warehouse environment.
Vision sufficient to operate machinery, read documentation, and navigate the warehouse safely, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

At least 6 months of forklift operating experience is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Load and unload pallets to and from trailers.
Move pallets to correct warehouse locations to maintain organization and accessibility.
Inspect the forklift daily using a checklist and ensure it is safe to operate.
Refuel equipment by following established procedures for changing propane tanks or charging electric tanks.
Complete and verify load information on paper or electronically, including counts of good and bad loads; serve as the final inspector for trailer loads.
Account for and mark materials moved between locations to ensure accurate documentation.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Follow safety guidelines and procedures for handling equipment and materials, as well as PLA policies and federal and state safety rules.
Assist in other warehouse areas as assigned to support team operations.
Adapt to new reporting relationships, assignments, and work schedules to meet company and business needs.
Work cooperatively with team members and management and maintain clear communication.
Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
