About The Position

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) is seeking applicants for a Single Role Paramedic position, which is a three-year limited-term appointment. This role is part of a new single-role ambulance staffing program implemented by the District. The Single Role Paramedic works under the direction of the Ambulance Supervisor and Senior Single Role Paramedic, providing advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS) emergency medical care. Paramedics respond to both critical and non-critical medical incidents, often collaborating with an EMT partner and members of an engine or truck company. The position involves maintaining vehicle readiness, ensuring EMS supplies are stocked and functional, performing daily narcotic checks, responding to calls, operating emergency vehicles safely, providing patient care according to established protocols, documenting care, and following the direction of incident commanders during large-scale responses. Station duties, training, community outreach, and timely report completion are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.
Accredited Paramedic in Contra Costa County or the ability to obtain accreditation within six (6) months of appointment.
Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License.
Possession of a valid State of California Paramedic License at the time of application and the ability to maintain a State of California Paramedic license.
Possession of and ability to maintain ACLS, PALS & PHTLS certifications.
Current Health Care Provider CPR certification.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, County, Local and District regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of principles of emergency ambulance and transportation procedures including first aid, resuscitator, and gurney operations, including safe emergency work practices.
Knowledge of infectious disease control procedures.
Knowledge of emergency radio communication procedures.
Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation.
Knowledge of emergency vehicle maintenance and operation.
Knowledge of local EMS policies, protocols and committees.
Knowledge of working with members of the public and responding with professionalism.
Skills in communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing.
Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook email communication.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly and professionally.
Ability to be punctual, reliable, personable and professional.
Ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities.
Ability to read electronic and incident maps and follow map directions.

Responsibilities

Assist crew in maintaining vehicle readiness in accordance with MOFD policies and procedures.
Ensure appropriate level of cleanliness for all EMS supplies stocked on the member’s assigned ambulance.
Ensures all EMS supplies and equipment are maintained in a ready status such that response is never delayed.
Performs daily narcotic checks according to MOFD policies.
Responds to EMS calls across the district.
Operate MOFD EMS vehicles in accordance with all California Vehicle Codes and District regulations.
On scene provides appropriate level of BLS and ALS assessments and interventions.
Provides care according to the standards established by the Contra Costa LEMSA policies and protocols.
Provides care and transportation to people experiencing medical emergencies ensuring patients are transported to receiving facilities as outlined in the Contra Costa LEMSA policy manual.
Provides appropriate care and documentation for individuals refusing care or transport.
Follows the direction of incident commanders during large-scale responses such as structure or wildland fires.
Performs station duties as assigned by the station captain.
Complete reports in a timely manner.
Takes part in drills and other training.
Maintains all appropriate licenses and certifications.
Participate in community outreach activities.
Other duties as assigned.
