The T-38 ATD Simulator Maintenance Technician (Sim Tech) applies advanced knowledge and experience to solve complex training device problems; including those that typically are not able to be solved solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. Sim Techs are fully qualified, trained, and knowledgeable in the T-38 ATD logistics support, maintenance, and operation of the training devices. T-38 ATD Sim Techs document discrepancies using reporting forms as required. At this level, the Sim Tech has demonstrated the ability to solve a variety of complex training device problems and the ability to instruct lower level simulator technicians as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Provide device power-up and shut down, daily readiness checks, assisting/building missions and training scenarios, assisting students and instructors in operating devices during training, and supporting user-directed activities such as investigations, test and demonstrations, tours, etc. Provide facility security, cleaning, and maintenance or other related services. Provide support for scheduled operations, as required by Government training schedules, have ATDs ready for training at least 10 minutes prior to the first scheduled ATD training event of the day. Provide T-38 ATD training device maintenance that supports the availability requirements of the Performance Work Statement. Perform applicable on-equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, replacement of parts, disassembly/reassembly, calibration, testing, and operational checks to correct training device malfunctions and verify proper serviceable condition of any component, system, or subsystem of the training device and training aids. Document total maintenance support on T-38 ATD support equipment and components, including tests, alignments and adjustments. Provide maintenance assistance using on-site, on-call, and/or telephone assistance-type services. Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems, those not typically solved by properly interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documents Assist in the design of minor hardware system modifications and software programs to stay current with aircraft configuration and to improve simulator operability. Manage, calibrate, repair or replace all of the support equipment provided as part of the RSP. Maintain spares inventories through repair or replacement. Responsible for identifying, purchasing, managing, maintaining, repairing, storing, and replenishing all listed parts. Manage and maintain the RSP, consisting of Government-owned spares, support equipment, and technical documentation necessary to operate and maintain the training device. Plan, supervise, organize, and coordinate all matters related to logistics activities. Initiate and update purchase requests as necessary. Identify specific requirements for logistics materials and services. Initiate, complete, examine, and process all purchase requests used for logistics support of the T-38 ATD training devices. Process PCARSS cases from beginning to end. Analyze spare packages and recommend changes to improve program functionality. Conduct quality control inspections and inspect maintenance work performed. Maintain required documentation of maintenance activities. Monitor and track the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities utilizing the logistics management data base system. (Documenting maintenance activities includes, but is not limited to, work order generation and updates, repair action documentation, issuing, returning, and adjusting inventory, insuring inventory records are up to date and accurate, and other material control duties as assigned.) Coordinate with appropriate TSSC staff with regard to non-standard situations. Recommend changes to process and/or procedures based on knowledge and past experience. Apply fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers. Interpret mechanical, electrical and electronic schematics and drawings. Conduct voice communications on phone, inter-phone and radio circuits. Provide networking and information systems support on training devices and networks. Maintain good relations with customers and ensure information flows within technical organization. Implement basic hardware and software modifications to existing simulators, as directed by the TSSC or Program Management. Document and dispose of obsolete, unserviceable, or unrepairable parts. Perform other duties as assigned. Provide instruction, as required, to lower level technicians in all the duties and responsibilities listed in this job description.
