About The Position

The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Simulation Technology Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the Director of Simulation, the Simulation Technology Specialist is responsible for providing operational, technical, and instructional technology support for simulation-based learning activities within the School of Nursing Simulation Center. This position is responsible for programming, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting simulation, audiovisual, and instructional technologies used to support undergraduate and graduate nursing education. The Simulation Technology Specialist works collaboratively with Simulation Center staff and School of Nursing faculty to facilitate simulation and skills-based learning activities, maintain simulation equipment and learning environments, and support the effective day-to-day operation of the Simulation Center. This position plays a key operational role in ensuring that simulation activities are delivered in a reliable, organized, safe, and learner-centered environment. The School of Nursing Simulation Center is a 7,500 square foot space with simulation labs, skills labs, exam rooms, and debriefing spaces that support undergraduate and graduate nursing education through hands-on skills training and simulated clinical experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, technology, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience supporting simulation technologies, instructional technologies, audiovisual systems, or related technical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining technical operating systems, simulation equipment, or instructional technology systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and ability to support users with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify operational or technical issues and implement effective solutions in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural, and professional backgrounds, along with demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate lab and simulation safety procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education, technology, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting healthcare simulation, clinical skills training, or instructional activities in healthcare education settings.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Simulation Center staff and School of Nursing faculty to program, operate, and support simulation technologies and systems that create realistic and safe learning environments aligned with course and program objectives.
  • Prepare, configure, operate, and troubleshoot simulation technologies, audiovisual systems, recording platforms, task trainers, and related instructional equipment used in simulation and skills-based learning activities.
  • Assist faculty and instructors with simulation and instructional activities, including room setup, breakdown, equipment preparation, and support for manikin and standardized participant scenarios.
  • Program, operate, and maintain simulation recording and debriefing systems, including SimIQ or comparable platforms, while assisting faculty and staff in their effective use.
  • Support the programming and operation of high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, standardized participant activities, virtual simulation technologies, and related computer-based simulation components.
  • Provide technical support during simulation sessions, labs, tours, and special events involving internal and external participants.
  • Maintain familiarity with current trends, technologies, and best practices in healthcare simulation and instructional technology.
  • Provide routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support for simulation equipment, instructional technologies, and related systems.
  • Coordinate equipment setup, takedown, lab preparation, and safety checks for instructional activities and simulation sessions.
  • Assist with software updates, system testing, equipment evaluation, and recommendations related to simulation and instructional technologies.
  • Participate in maintaining simulation inventory, supplies, and equipment tracking systems.
  • Oversee and provide direction to student workers supporting routine simulation center operations.
  • Adhere to protocols, procedures, and operational expectations established by Simulation Center leadership.
