About The Position

Insitu is seeking an experienced Simulation Software Engineer to join an agile software development team working on unmanned aircraft systems. The role focuses on developing simulation software and modeling solutions for complex systems, including aircraft and payloads. The engineer will contribute to a full-stack software solution and work at the intersection of software, physics, and mathematics, collaborating with flight software and integration teams. The position supports remote work or work at Insitu’s engineering building in Bingen, Washington, with fully onsite or hybrid work preferred. The engineer will develop and test simulation software, build modular physics models, align software architecture with aircraft requirements, and apply AI and machine-learning techniques to simulation development and analysis. The role also includes integrating simulation capabilities into engineering workflows or customer solutions, documenting software, maintaining code repositories, and evaluating new simulation technologies. The typical hiring range is $102,500–$140,800. Insitu describes its total rewards package as including competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities, along with benefit programs that generally include health insurance, flexible spending and health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability programs, and paid and unpaid time away from work. Programs and eligibility may vary by employee and location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering or computer science.
  • Typical experience: 5–8 years in an engineering classification with a bachelor’s degree, or 3–6 years in an engineering classification with a master’s degree.
  • Strong background in simulation development using MathWorks tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder, or Simulink Real-Time, including developing and optimizing simulation or modeling software.
  • Strong background in modular design patterns and object-oriented programming using C++ or C#.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, physics, or systems modeling.
  • Familiarity with fixed-wing and/or rotorcraft aerodynamics.
  • Excellent modeling, software, and debugging skills.
  • Experience with version control such as Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
