About The Position

The Nursing Program at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a Simulation Specialist to provide operational and technical support for the daily readiness and effective functioning of Loyola Maryland's Clinical Lab and Simulation Center. This position is a 12-month, full-time staff position that supports simulation-based learning, clinical skills instruction, and laboratory operations within the nursing program. The Simulation Specialist works collaboratively with the Director of the Clinical Lab and Simulation Center, nursing faculty, Information Technology staff, and simulation vendors to ensure the effective operation of simulation technologies, audiovisual systems, clinical skills equipment, and student learning spaces. The Simulation Specialist assists with the setup, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and organization of simulation and skills laboratory activities, while supporting Loyola’s Jesuit mission and commitment to care for the whole person.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with experience in simulation technology, information technology, audiovisual technology, healthcare, education, or a related field.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare simulation operations, healthcare or science laboratory operations, educational technology, audiovisual or information technology support, or a closely related technical environment.
  • Independent responsibility for preparing and operating technical learning environments, troubleshooting equipment and systems, maintaining operational readiness and documentation, coordinating with faculty or end users, and working with Information Technology personnel or external vendors.
  • Advanced technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to independently configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, audiovisual capture and recording systems, simulation management platforms, virtual reality technologies, and related hardware, software, and connectivity
  • Ability to analyze varied technical and operational problems, identify practical solutions, prioritize competing demands, support multiple concurrent activities, and determine when issues require escalation to Information Technology, Facilities, or external vendors.
  • Strong organizational and operational-management skills, including preventive maintenance, inventory control, equipment and warranty records, supply readiness, secure storage, documentation, scheduling, standard operating procedures, and continuous process improvement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and service skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, student employees, vendors, and technical personnel; provide calm support during live simulation activities; and train users with differing levels of technical experience.
  • Ability to work independently under general direction while contributing proactively to a team
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate access to student records and simulation recordings

  • Work occasional evening or weekend hours as program needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification or current eligibility to sit for the CHSOS examination.
  • Substantial experience with healthcare simulation technologies, high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, audiovisual capture and recording systems, and day-to-day simulation center operations.
  • Experience administering Laerdal SimCapture or a comparable simulation management and audiovisual platform.
  • Experience with virtual reality, immersive simulation, or other emerging healthcare education technologies.
  • Experience with Exxat, ExamSoft, scheduling, inventory, or comparable educational and operational systems.
  • Experience in higher education, nursing or health professions education, and familiarity with healthcare simulation standards, clinical terminology, standardized patients, or moulage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for simulation and clinical skills activities. Prepare, configure, test, operate, and rest simulation rooms, clinical skills spaces, highfidelity simulators, task trainers, standardized patient spaces, and associated equipment in accordance with established procedures and faculty plans.
  • Operate audiovisual capture and recording systems during live activities; support multiple simultaneous simulations; responds to operational needs as they arise; and provides technical assistance to help minimize disruption to student learning.
  • Provide technical support for simulation technologies and related systems; troubleshoot and resolve routine hardware, software, audiovisual, connectivity, and integration issues; perform routine and preventive maintenance; support system updates, user access, and operational readiness; document serving history; coordinate repairs, warranties, and vendor or Information; maintain working knowledge of Laerdal, SimCapture or comparable platforms and emerging simulation technologies
  • Provide day-to-day support for clinical laboratory operations, equipment, and supplies. Maintain organized and secure storage; monitor inventory and established par levels; receives and tracks equipment; coordinates cleaning, restocking, and operational readiness; maintains maintenance, warranty, and lifecycle records; and communicates replacement, repair, and purchasing needs to leadership. Support the safe handling of clinical equipment, simulated medications, sharps substitutes, cleaning products, and artificial body fluids in accordance with University procedures.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, checklists, schedules, and quality assurance processes for the Center. Train and support faculty, staff, students, and student employees in the appropriate use of simulation technologies and laboratory equipment; assist with coordinating the work of student employees during setup and reset activities. Support the implementation and use of virtual reality, immersive learning, Exxat, ExamSoft, and other educational systems; assists with testing new technologies; protect confidential recordings and student information; and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and the learner experience for leadership review.
