About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced engineering professionals with deep applied expertise in simulation, quantitative design, and first-principles engineering across control systems, analog or RF circuits, power electronics, or mechanical design. This role focuses on creating rigorous engineering simulation problems with quantitative specifications and measurable pass/fail criteria. Selected experts will define simulations, design technically challenging engineering tasks, establish acceptance thresholds, and evaluate whether proposed designs satisfy all stated requirements.

Requirements

  • Deep applied expertise in at least one of the following areas: Control Systems, Analog Circuit Design, RF Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechanical Design
  • PhD or equivalent industry track record in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Strong understanding of first-principles engineering analysis and quantitative design
  • Comfortable building engineering simulations in Python
  • Able to express engineering requirements as measurable, testable thresholds
  • Experience designing or analysing systems where multiple specifications must be satisfied simultaneously
  • Strong ability to judge technically complex solutions rigorously
  • Comfortable working with GitHub
  • Comfortable using browser-based technical tools
  • Strong written communication and technical documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior model-evaluation experience is not required

Responsibilities

  • Develop technically rigorous simulations within your engineering domain
  • Define realistic system behaviour, constraints, parameters, and operating conditions
  • Build simulations that allow candidate designs to be tested quantitatively
  • Ensure simulations accurately reflect relevant engineering principles
  • Design problems that require genuine technical reasoning rather than simple factual recall
  • Create detailed engineering specification sheets
  • Define clear quantitative requirements and pass/fail thresholds
  • Establish measurable criteria for evaluating design performance
  • Ensure all specifications can be validated through simulation
  • Identify interactions or trade-offs between competing design requirements
  • Develop simulation problems involving control-system design and tuning
  • Define performance requirements for parameters such as stability, response characteristics, and controller behaviour
  • Evaluate proposed controller gains and system configurations
  • Assess whether designs satisfy all specified operating constraints
  • Apply first-principles reasoning to complex dynamic-system problems
  • Design engineering tasks involving analog circuits, RF systems, or power electronics
  • Define circuit parameters and measurable electrical-performance requirements
  • Simulate proposed designs and evaluate whether specifications are satisfied
  • Assess trade-offs between competing circuit-design objectives
  • Identify technically invalid or incomplete design approaches
  • Develop simulation-based problems involving mechanical geometry and design parameters
  • Define quantitative requirements for system or component performance
  • Evaluate candidate geometries against specified engineering constraints
  • Assess whether proposed designs satisfy multiple interacting requirements
  • Apply practical mechanical-engineering judgement to simulation outcomes
  • Develop and maintain engineering simulations using Python
  • Translate physical and engineering relationships into computational models
  • Implement quantitative tests and automated acceptance checks
  • Ensure simulations behave predictably across relevant parameter ranges
  • Validate simulation outputs and identify modelling errors or unintended shortcuts
  • Create problems that are challenging even for technically sophisticated solvers
  • Structure tasks so that successful solutions require iterative reasoning and design
  • Avoid problems that can be solved through obvious shortcuts
  • Ensure sufficient complexity while maintaining objective evaluation criteria
  • Write clear prompts that accurately communicate engineering objectives and constraints
  • Evaluate proposed designs such as controller gains, circuit parameters, or mechanical geometries
  • Run candidate solutions through simulations and interpret resulting performance
  • Determine whether each design satisfies all required specifications
  • Identify failed constraints, engineering weaknesses, and invalid assumptions
  • Provide technically precise evaluation of proposed solutions
  • Verify that simulation logic, specifications, and grading criteria are internally consistent
  • Ensure engineering problems can be judged objectively and reproducibly
  • Identify edge cases or loopholes that could undermine task quality
  • Maintain high standards of numerical accuracy and technical rigour
  • Refine problems based on observed solver behaviour and evaluation outcomes

Benefits

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Daily onboarding calls and internal tooling support are available
