Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867. Today, we are an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, offering the only advanced trauma care between Fresno and Los Angeles. Kern Medical cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year. Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours. Per Diem minimum scheduling expectation is six (6) shifts per four-week schedule. The Standardized Patient reports directly to the Director of Simulation and the Standardized Patient Coordinator. The major responsibility of this position is to accurately portray the specific emotions, behaviors and disease symptoms as a real patient, while interacting with students and learners in simulated patient encounters. Standardized patients may also be examined by medical students and faculty as part of the formative and summative learning experience. Incumbents in this role supports the Simulation Center with their ability to act as patients to enhance the education and growth in skills of medical students, residents, and other health care providers.
