About The Position

The Office Assistant IV (OAIV) - Simulation Technician role is responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and performing basic repairs on simulation equipment, including hospital-type equipment and AV/IT equipment. This role assists the simulation director in orienting faculty and learners on technical equipment, managing operational activities like scheduling and inventory, and supporting the development, setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation education sessions. The position also aids in staff onboarding and other required activities, demonstrating a working knowledge of simulation educational principles and various simulation modalities.

Requirements

  • Post high school education preferred.
  • Training or experience equivalent to two years of clerical experience or related education.
  • At least two years’ experience as a technician in a simulation center, including experience in maintaining an equipment inventory and maintenance schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot simulation, hospital, and IT/AV equipment and software used in a clinical education environment.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of office procedures, practices, and methods, and the ability to interpret needs and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to acquire new skills and learn new procedures.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience working with computer database systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience with and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Must be customer service and team oriented.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates simulation equipment according to the requirements of each simulation activity.
  • Maintains storage areas and clinical/educational equipment to a high standard, including cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Attends vendor training sessions and conferences for equipment training.
  • Operates and troubleshoots hospital equipment used in simulation (e.g., beds, pumps, ventilators).
  • Controls, programs, maintains, and troubleshoots patient simulators during training sessions.
  • Maintains an equipment inventory and schedule of maintenance activities.
  • Performs routine cleaning, advanced maintenance, and coordinates equipment repairs with vendors.
  • Sets up simulation environments using appropriate checklists.
  • Operates AV systems, including cameras, recording/playback, and exporting functions.
  • Troubleshoots AV systems and understands their interface with hospital AV systems.
  • Operates AV systems remotely and uses mobile AV systems.
  • Assists with scenario planning and design, testing for integrity.
  • Assists with running scenarios, including directing and coordination.
  • May be involved in debriefing/feedback sessions.
  • Instructs actors or acts during scenarios, and acts as the voice of the manikin.
  • Maintains systems, staff availability, scheduling, and equipment to a high standard under the direction of the Simulation Director.
  • Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Implements quality improvement programs using simulation.
  • Maintains stock levels for maintenance needs.
  • Makes recommendations for equipment, supplies, and materials purchases.
  • Introduces instructors to different simulation training modalities.
  • Advises instructors during scenario design and running.
  • Assists simulation team members in developing training programs and scenarios.
  • Collaborates with simulation team members to run training programs and scenarios.
  • Supports learners in maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Suggests and implements solutions to enhance simulation-based education delivery.
  • Assists with piloting and delivery of simulation-based training.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with mannequins and equipment.
  • Coordinates with Technical Services (IM and Biomedical Engineering) to ensure equipment operational status.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning of the simulation center's technical infrastructure.
  • Reports technical issues or risks to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintains awareness of scheduling issues related to resource availability.
  • Coordinates and maintains operations manuals and supplies teaching aids.
  • Participates in professional and educational activities to maintain competencies.
