Signals and Defense Engineer, Senior

Booz Allen Hamilton•McLean, VA

About The Position

The Senior Signals and Defense Engineer role focuses on investigating security events and incidents and proactively hunting for malicious activity that may evade existing security controls. The position combines incident response activities—including triage, investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery—with hypothesis-driven threat hunting to identify adversary behavior, detection gaps, and opportunities to improve security visibility. The analyst conducts investigations independently and collaborates with senior analysts, threat hunters, detection engineers, incident responders, and partner teams during complex events. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work performed at the facility. The role investigates activity across endpoint, network, identity, cloud, application, and infrastructure environments. It uses security telemetry, SIEM and EDR/XDR platforms, cloud security tools, threat intelligence, and analytics to determine incident scope, severity, impact, and potential root cause; develop and execute hunts; and translate findings into detection improvements. The position also contributes to incident response procedures, threat hunting playbooks, investigation guides, SOC procedures, and post-incident reviews. Booz Allen offers health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits, paid leave, professional development, tuition assistance, work-life programs, dependent care, and recognition awards. The projected annualized compensation range is $86,800 to $198,000. Salary is determined by factors including location, qualifications, experience, and organizational or contract requirements.
