Install, operate, and maintain all electrical traffic control devices, continuous roadway lighting, early warning siren system, and associated equipment. This role involves observing traffic signal control devices to determine correct operation, bench testing, troubleshooting, and repairing traffic signal control devices. The position also includes installing, maintaining, and removing roadway lighting, evaluating damage, and conducting emergency repairs of traffic control devices due to accidents, malfunctions, and weather. Responsibilities extend to installing or repairing conduit and pulling wires and cable on an emergency and non-emergency basis. The role requires monitoring signal effectiveness through computer use, developing new signal sequencing/phasing scenarios, and modifying/updating existing devices to improve traffic flow using various traffic optimization software. Additionally, the position involves installing, maintaining, or removing associated traffic control devices as needed, responding to emergency calls regarding malfunctioning traffic control devices, and performing rotating weekly on-call/stand-by duty. Maintaining an inventory of supplies, equipment, and all traffic signal shop assets, setting up and maintaining work zone traffic control as required by the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and maintaining activity records such as work orders, status reports, trouble calls, and work schedules are also key duties. The role also includes installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco, Alvarion, and Dragonwave radios that are the backbone of the wireless ATMS system, as well as installing, maintaining, and repairing in-pavement flashing crosswalks.
