About The Position

YWCA Calgary is dedicated to supporting women and their families to thrive in a
safe and equitable community by providing programs and services from shelter and
housing to counselling, childcare, language instruction and supports to be
economically prosperous. Our mission is prevention, intervention, empowerment
and leadership for the benefit of women and their families. Our team brings
together expertise from diverse backgrounds to support and advocate for all
women and their families.

Presenters for Signal for Safety lead an internal and external awareness
initiative that increases understanding of Red Flag Laws and their role in
preventing harm through timely, legal intervention when someone may pose a risk
to themselves or others. In this volunteer role, presenters are essential to
expanding the initiative’s reach by delivering accurate, accessible information
to YWCA Calgary staff and community organizations and groups.

Requirements

• Presenters are asked to dedicate around 5–10 hours per month, including prep, presentations, and team meetings
• Willingness to engage in self‑directed learning, with support as necessary, to develop subject‑matter knowledge (e.g., laws, processes, safety considerations)
• Ability to learn about, understand, and confidently share information regarding Red Flag Laws
• Comfortable speaking to a variety of audiences, both in person and online (e.g., through Teams)
• Ability to maintain a neutral, non-political approach when presenting information and redirect conversations away from political debate
• Reliable, professional, and respectful when addressing sensitive topics
• Understands or is receptive to learning trauma-informed communication principles

Nice To Haves

• Presentation or public speaking experience is helpful but not required; interest and willingness to learn are most important

Responsibilities

• Independently deliver brief (under 60 minutes) information-sharing presentations to local community organizations, clubs, groups, agencies, and internal teams
• Share information in a clear, accurate, and respectful manner
• Represent the organization professionally and respond to questions confidently
• Adhere to program and funding boundaries by only sharing approved information
• Communicate with sensitivity and respect, following trauma-informed principles
• Collaborate with the project lead to plan, schedule, and track presentations
• Share feedback from presentations to assist in enhancing the program
