About The Position

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is seeking a Signal/Electrical Assistant Engineer for its Transit Division. This role is part of the Train Control Upgrade Project, a multi-year, multimillion-dollar initiative to replace the existing Automatic Train Control System with a modern Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system across the entire Muni light rail system. The Transit Program Delivery unit, within which this position sits, oversees capital programs, manages technology projects, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions that improve safety and transit service. The Transit Technology Group specifically handles the procurement, delivery, acceptance, and management of critical technology systems. The Assistant Engineer will perform system engineering work, review designs and documents from the CBTC Supplier, and work on systems integration between the train control system and various wayside components and other technology systems. The role also involves contributing to civil engineering design for enabling works, developing electrical drawings, and participating in design reviews and technical coordination meetings. During construction and testing, the Assistant Engineer will monitor progress, compare field conditions to drawings, participate in system testing, and contribute to the development of installation and testing plans.
