About The Position

To perform complex and safety-sensitive operation and maintenance activities on the County's traffic and signal systems. This position is responsible for creating, fabricating, installing and repairing traffic signs on County roads, bridges and other facilities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in the operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipment
  • Valid CDL - Minnesota Class A driver's license without restrictions
  • Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain with six months of employment
  • Ability to report to work within 45 minutes if necessary
  • Experience using a personal computer

Nice To Haves

  • Sign school or related vocational training
  • Previous work experience in highway sign creation and placement
  • Snow removal and ice control operations in a road system environment
  • Maintenance Worker with a County, City or State office
  • Vocational training with experience in the operation and maintenance of light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Making minor repairs and adjustments to service equipment
  • Experience in the operation of trucks, tractors and other light automotive equipment

Responsibilities

  • Creates, installs and maintains highway signs, posts, guardrails and fences to maintain safe and navigable roads and bridges.
  • Maintains a computerized inventory of signs, sign materials, posts, sign locations and conditions to maintain accurate, up-to-date, and accessible records.
  • Determines need for signs and posts in preparation of signing plans for maintenance and construction projects and for replacement program to assist in bid preparation.
  • Communicates and coordinates with utility notification center to ensure safe work zones.
  • Operates light and moderately heavy equipment including trucks for snow plowing and applying ice control materials to County roads, materials hauling and right away repair and maintenance in an effort to maintain safe roadways.
  • Removes brush and trees from roadways using hand and power tools.
  • Performs routine mechanical repair and preventative maintenance work to ensure safe and proper working condition of all tools and equipment.
  • Carries signs and performs other lifting and moving of heavy objects and materials.
  • Documents work activities, performs computer data entry and utilizes computer databases.
  • Attends work regularly and in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
