About The Position

The Goodhue County Public Works department is seeking qualified applicants for a Highway Sign Technician opening. The Sign Technician protects motorists in Goodhue County by performing road sign installation and maintenance in accordance with the Minnesota Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and current traffic laws and regulations. The Highway Sign Technician must have impeccable attention to detail in performance of daily tasks including installation and maintenance; updating databases and worklogs; and staying abreast of changes to regulatory practices. This position researches best practices and recommends changes to existing policy. The Highway Sign Technician must be adept at coordinating staffing and building professional relationships to finalize projects which may involve other agencies. This position requires superior organization and technology skills to maintain appropriate inventory of signs and supplies and prepare quotes using computerized software. The Highway Sign Technician also performs Highway Equipment Operator job duties including highway maintenance, plowing, ditch cleaning, culvert installation and so on. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • The ability to obtain a detailed working knowledge of the Minnesota Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD) as well as current traffic control laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience to use a personal computer.
  • Possession of a valid Class “B” Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License is required for hiring.
  • A Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License is required to complete all of the tasks required of the position.
