About The Position

The Sign Language Interpreter provides interpretation of sign language (receptive and expressive) for students, staff, parents and the school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an interpreter training program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional interpreting experience in a community, business, or government program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meets the requirements for licensure as determined by the North Carolina Interpreter and Transliterator Licensing Board.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret for school meetings which include school personnel, students, parents, and/or other external participants to ensure access to information. Meetings may include but are not limited to IEP meetings, student staffing, Mental Health meetings, staff development meetings on and off campus with other outside persons/agencies, phone conversations, etc.
  • Provide services to Deaf Administrators, and Dept. Heads as needed on a daily basis.
  • Interpret in the classroom for mainstreamed students.
  • Share teaching responsibilities of sign language orientation to new employees who do not have knowledge of sign language.
