About The Position

Auto Warehousing Company (AWC) has been in business since 1962 and is the largest full-service auto servicing and processing company in the nation. Located at the beautiful Port of Richmond, California, AWC provides a variety of services for auto manufacturers, including loading and unloading new vehicles onto railcars, installing accessories, body repair, and general vehicle inspection and processing. The Yard/Shuttle Associate Driver is responsible for moving vehicles for processing and prepping cars for release to rail or haul-away carriers. This includes moving vehicles from staging areas to shipping bay locations, washing vehicles, and conducting Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI) to ensure quality standards are met. Associates also move vehicles to shipping companies, consolidate vehicles to make room for others, and perform various clean-up tasks.

  • Ability to read and understand location cards and work orders.
  • Ability to read and understand SDS.
  • Ability to write, read, and comprehend basic English.
  • Able to drive both standard and automatic automobiles.
  • Able to lift 35 pounds.
  • Current valid driver's license & good driving record (no more than 2 moving violations in the past 12 months and no more than 3 in the last 3 years).
  • Able to drive automatic automobile vehicles and pass onsite drivers test.
  • Able to stand, walk, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift 35 to 40 pounds.
  • Have good visual and auditory ability.

Responsibilities

  • Move vehicles for processing and prepping car for release to rail or haul-away carriers.
  • Move vehicle from staging area to shipping bay location.
  • Wash vehicles.
  • Conduct PDI (Pre-delivery inspection) to ensure quality standard are met.
  • Move vehicles to shipping companies and consolidate (bunch) vehicles to make room for other vehicles.
  • Drive vehicles from lots to shop to shipment areas.
  • Fuel cars.
  • Throw mats and other basic accessories for the Accessory shop.
  • Responsible for various clean-up tasks such as breaking down cardboard.
  • Drive vehicles to and from specified locations.
  • Ensure vehicles are available for work in the other areas.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked in proper locations.
  • Ensure yard quality standards are maintained.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and attend safety meetings.
  • Gas and drive vehicles through car wash.
  • Identify vehicles and insert documentation as required.
  • Inform Leads or Managers of significant departmental issues.
  • Keep Leads, Managers, and others informed of significant issues.
  • Log processed work into computer program or tracking system as required.
  • Meet or exceed established production and quality standards.
  • Read and match VIN numbers quickly and accurately to ensure movement of proper vehicles.
  • Park new vehicles in assigned areas.
  • Perform job in a safe manner.
  • Read and understand VIN numbers, repair orders, purchase orders, purge sheets, and other documents to complete work.
  • Visually verify that vehicle is damage free.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Daily clean up.
  • Put throw in parts into vehicles.
  • Notify supervisor of any workplace hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in facility safety efforts by attending monthly safety meetings, report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms, and communicate the procedure to all appropriate customers/vendors and AWC personnel.
  • Understand policies, including but not limited to company safety policies.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of work area.
  • Other duties assigned by lead or manager.
