About The Position

Norfolk State University’s Department of Facilities Management Transportation Division seeks applicants for the position of Shuttle Driver. The incumbent will report directly to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record level throughout employment as monitored by periodic reviews of driving record.
  • Must be able to work varying shifts, hours and days, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years’ experience as a fixed-route transit bus driver or over-the-road charter bus driver is preferred.
  • Considerable customer service experience.
  • Or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
  • Individual may be required to attend school/workshops on a yearly basis to maintain skill level necessary to carry out position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to drive and comfortably operate passenger vans, 25 passenger shuttle buses any and all support and transit vehicles.
  • Available Working Shifts – Morning Schedule : Monday thru Friday – 7:00 am – 4:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday – 10:00 am – 8:00 pm Evening Schedule: Monday thru Friday – 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday – 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (Flexible Schedule).
  • Ability to operate a transit vehicle.
  • Knowledge of highway regulations; effective verbal and listening communications skills; time and stress management skills.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language to record and maintain daily route records.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and execute verbal instructions through two-way radio communications.
  • Ability to provide friendly customer service and conduct positive, courteous and respectful interaction with the public.
  • Practices safety at all times in performance of required duties.
  • Provide detailed reports of accidents or incidents.
