About The Position

A Shuttle Driver at Valor Christian High School is responsible for safely transporting students on established routes while following all traffic laws and school transportation policies. This role includes conducting vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring a safe, orderly, and respectful environment for passengers. The driver represents the school positively, communicates effectively with students, families, and staff, and responds calmly to emergencies or unexpected situations. Additional responsibilities include keeping vehicles clean and fueled, reporting mechanical or safety concerns, supporting maintenance needs, tracking route and ridership information, and administering basic first aid when necessary. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Driving record must meet the standards detailed in the Valor Christian Vehicle Usage Policy
  • Ability to pass background checks and alcohol/drug screening
  • Ability to pass any required medical examination and/or medical history review
  • Must not have any medical condition that would impair the ability to drive safely and meet vision, hearing, cardiovascular, and general health standards
  • Proven reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to work effectively with teenagers and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Basic mechanical awareness and strong situational judgment
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of local routes and driving in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Valor Christian shuttles on established daily routes
  • Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws and school transportation policies
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete required logs, and report any issues to the Fleet Manager
  • Ensure students follow safety rules; report incidents promptly and appropriately
  • Maintain an orderly, respectful environment on the shuttle
  • Represent Valor Christian positively to students, families, and the community
  • Use effective communication and calm judgment in emergencies or unexpected situations
  • Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and ready for service
  • Report mechanical issues, needed repairs, or safety concerns immediately
  • Support scheduled maintenance and inspections as required
  • Maintain accurate route records, mileage, and student ridership counts when assigned
  • Communicate clearly with the Fleet Manager or school administrators regarding delays, route conditions, or student concerns
  • Administer basic first aid if necessary
  • Ensure that all carry-on items are properly handled to minimize the danger to all others
