About The Position

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for operating terminal tractors to safely move and organize loaded and empty trailers into position in support of daily terminal and customer operations. This role involves organizing trailer parking, optimizing resource allocation through yard checks and trailer inventory, and monitoring load dates and times to prioritize unloading. The driver will also establish clear communication with the dispatch team to ensure a steady supply of milk for the plant and consistent availability of empty trailers for drivers. Maintaining the terminal tractor and adhering to safety protocols are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to navigate through tight spaces with precision in fast-paced and dynamic environments.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of internal and external staff.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather and in varying environmental conditions.
  • Basic understanding of safety protocols and practices.
  • Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Operate terminal tractors to safely move and organize loaded and empty trailers.
  • Organize trailer parking locations for terminal or customer plant yards.
  • Optimize resource allocation by conducting yard checks and trailer inventory counts.
  • Monitor the status of loaded and empty trailers within the yard at all times.
  • Assist commercial motor vehicle drivers in locating paperwork and sample turn-in locations.
  • Direct commercial motor vehicle drivers to the next available empty trailer if required.
  • Monitor load dates and times, prioritizing the unloading of loaded trailers before their expiration.
  • Establish clear communication with the dispatch team to ensure a steady supply of milk for the plant and consistent availability of empty trailers for drivers.
  • Maintain a clean terminal tractor and communicate maintenance needs to the maintenance department.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of protective equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
