About The Position

Under general supervision, the Campus Shuttle Operator is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of employees, students, or patients around the Medical District. This role involves operating a shuttle bus, maintaining logs, communicating with passengers, and performing basic vehicle maintenance and cleaning.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma.
  • One year of experience in truck driving, operating a crane, or operating a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to perform job functions in an upright position.
  • Ability to perform job functions in a seated position.
  • Ability to perform job functions while walking/mobile.
  • Ability to work indoors.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes.
  • Ability to use hand/power tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Transports employees, students, and visitors to MUSC and areas within the assigned area of operations.
  • Safely and efficiently boards and discharges passengers.
  • Monitors vehicle performance and addresses issues within the operator's scope of responsibility.
  • Maintains administrative and operational logs, including inspection forms, mileage logs, passenger counts, and accident/incident reports.
  • Communicates effectively with passengers and customers regarding transportation schedules and services.
  • Maintains thorough work records and makes timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
  • Responsible for fueling and cleaning the vehicle, including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and washing.
  • Performs operator's pre/post vehicle inspections and adds fluids as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including substituting for other drivers, quick rides, and out-of-town travels (day trips).
