About The Position

River Metals Recycling, a division of Nucor Corporation, is seeking a creative, motivated, and dedicated teammate to join their team as a Second Shift Shredder Supervisor. This role involves direct responsibility for the second shift operations of the shredding department, including the operation and maintenance of the shredder, mobile equipment, and other processing equipment. The supervisor will lead a team of operators and maintenance personnel, ensuring safe work practices and efficient operation of all equipment. This position also requires coordination with the Day Shift Shredder Supervisor, Facility Manager, and other supervisors for parts ordering, maintenance scheduling, and other maintenance needs. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering or related field or a minimum of 3 years management experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
• Experience in operations or manufacturing with heavy equipment
• Experience in scrap metal
• Experience in the maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
• Ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
• Safety oriented.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of inventory management, shipping and receiving material using lean manufacturing principles is a plus
• Proven ability to communicate with all levels of customers and internal contacts
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Skilled and experienced with personal computers, software, spreadsheets and databases (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to plan, manage and prioritize work; adapt to a changing environment; strong organized approach to work
• Knowledge and experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance and engineering fundamentals
• Experience in developing effective preventative/predictive maintenance program

Responsibilities

• Direct responsibility for second shift operations of the shredding department.
• Oversee operations and maintenance of the shredder, mobile equipment, and other processing equipment.
• Lead a team of operators and maintenance personnel, ensuring safe work practices.
• Ensure the shredder, downstream processing equipment, and material handling systems are running efficiently.
• Coordinate with the Day Shift Shredder Supervisor, Facility Manager, and other supervisors on ordering parts, maintenance scheduling, and other maintenance needs.
• Provide leadership in plant safety and operations on a day-to-day basis.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers.
• Establish production work schedules.
• Provide leadership in people development activities such as hiring, training, developing and coaching staff.
• Serve as a role model; support and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies and practices.
• Support manager in long-range planning and budgeting.
• Conduct monthly inventory.
• Hands-on leadership approach in working with teammates.
• Ensure safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards are upheld.
