About The Position

Museum of Ice Cream is seeking a Show Set Designer to join their Design Team. This role involves developing the Show Set Package for new museum openings and contributing to design updates in existing units. The designer will work with the Senior Show Manager and Production team to translate creative concepts into developed models and drawing packages, utilizing creative, technical, and architectural knowledge to enhance exhibits, facilities, and the overall guest experience.

Requirements

  • Proficient skill in Rhino and Revit.
  • Comfortable with AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch-Up, and various other 3D software and image creation tools.
  • Proficiency in working in sheet sets and developing Show Set packages from Concept through DD phase.
  • Fundamental understanding of time management, fabrication methods and materials, and general cost of fabrication.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a relevant professional workplace.
  • Portfolio of drawing sets, renders, and previous design work, relative to the position.
  • Willingness and ability to problem-solve complex design solutions when building new and existing spaces.
  • A creative mind and vision applied to work, with a passion for building experiences, themed spaces, and new worlds.
  • Los Angeles Area based.
  • Comfortable with a hybrid working environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for and developing show sets for themed entertainment projects.
  • Experience in narrative development (e.g., experience design, immersive theater, film, TV).
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in a relative design field, preferably with a focus on scenic/themed entertainment.
  • An ability and desire to walk the line between technical and creative design work.
  • An architectural background.
  • Interior Design background relevant to Themed Entertainment.
  • 1 year+ fabrication experience.

Responsibilities

  • Translate creative intent, sketches, and reference materials into accurate 3D models, plans, elevations, and sections using Rhino.
  • Annotate and assemble 3D models into comprehensive sheet sets and show set packages.
  • Model according to MOIC Design Team standards for export to Revit for BIM management and architectural coordination.
  • Draft Show Set Packages following MOIC Design Team Drafting Standards.
  • Develop experiences from Concept through Design Development, including guest experience, interaction, and spatial design.
  • Detail show elements within themed environments, including scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, lighting, audio equipment, and hardware.
  • Develop in-field solutions and follow-up documentation for construction and fabrication of all show elements.
  • Participate in design, cost analysis, and technical reviews during project development.
  • Ensure all art/finish specifications, material selections, and design drawings meet brand standards and creative intent.
  • Develop creative design, color boards, sketches, and models to outline solutions for integrating elements into themed exhibit environments.
