About The Position

NJ.com is seeking a Short-Form Video Producer who is a passionate storyteller adept at creating engaging and informative video content for social audiences, particularly on platforms like TikTok. The role involves transforming New Jersey news and national trending stories into daily content that resonates with viewers, with a specific focus on connecting with the 18-30 age demographic. This is a content-creator-first position requiring individuals who can identify and tell their own stories, understand how to spark conversation, build engagement, and grow an audience natively on social platforms. The producer will be part of the NJ.com video team, collaborating with social media producers, reporters, and editors, and reporting to the Video Manager. The position requires reliable transportation for covering events and last-minute shoots.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience creating and publishing video content on TikTok and/or Instagram; candidates should demonstrate strong news judgment.
  • Experience growing a social media audience — starting conversations, earning trust, and building engagement over time.
  • Solid understanding of editing tools such as CapCut, Instagram Edits, or Adobe Premiere, and collaborative tools like Google Drive.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clean, concise scripts and execute videos in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires reliable transportation to meet with sources, cover events, and attend last-minute shoots when news breaks.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong audio recording abilities.
  • Fluency in a second language.

Responsibilities

  • Research, pitch, shoot, script, edit, and publish compelling news and feature videos.
  • Embrace versatility in video styles (text-on-screen explainers, interviews, live coverage) with a focus on growing the 18-30 year old audience.
  • Cover newsworthy N.J. events and turn around a short-form video the same day.
  • Contribute to the newsroom's broader video needs, including projects and shooting breaking news or live video.
  • Plan and execute live streams to Facebook.
  • Post video according to best practices across brand social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook.
