About The Position

The Shorenet Education Lead will focus on developing Shorenet's learning content and carrying the educational thought leadership that flows through the network. This includes creating new learning resources and modules, developing a micro credential in place-based economic development, and building the curriculum for the "[Name] in Place" programmes. The role involves content development rather than logistics and will also include a share of the Institute's consulting portfolio. The Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies is a program of Shorefast, a large social enterprise organization in Canada, dedicated to supporting communities in shaping their economic futures through place-based approaches.

Requirements

  • Experience in instructional or curriculum design would be a strong advantage.
  • A strong writer, able to translate practice into clear learning content and publications.
  • Familiarity with community economic development and place-based practice.
  • Facilitation credentials and experience leading workshops and learning sessions.
  • Based in Newfoundland and Labrador or Ontario.
  • Energized by building things, whether modules, curricula, stories, or publications.
  • Clear communicator and collaborator across the team, practitioners, and partners.
  • Willing to travel to Fogo Island and other partner communities as required.
  • Committed to the values and mission of Shorefast, and treats communities as economic actors with assets and agency.

  • Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new Shorenet learning resources and modules, and design and deliver the learning programmes across the membership tiers and the online learning offering.
  • Develop a micro credential in place-based economic development for Shorenet, from curriculum design through to delivery.
  • Build the curriculum and content for the "[Name] in Place" programmes, in partnership with the Manager, Shorenet and Convening.
  • Develop and maintain Shorenet's toolsets and resources library, including the ABCDE methodology, keeping content current and accessible to members.
  • Lead the educational and practitioner thought leadership carried through the network, including articles, publications, and the community economics webinar series.
  • Support the Cases for Places series, turning the network's practice into usable, shareable content.
  • Represent the Institute as a speaker at programme-related gatherings and events as required.
  • Deliver some consulting workshops, sharing the wider consulting portfolio with the Manager, Shorenet and Convening.
