About The Position

Our mine services group is seeking a full-time Shop Welder for our Northwood, OH branch to join our metal fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience fabricating and welding metal components and weldments from blueprints, drawings, and work instructions. This position requires strong attention to detail, accurate measurement and layout skills, the ability to follow directions, and a commitment to producing quality work safely and efficiently. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently while also communicating effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other members of the fabrication team.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in welding and/or metal fabrication.
  • Demonstrated experience with MIG welding.
  • Demonstrated experience with Stick/Arc welding.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to understand and maintain specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Experience fabricating, fitting, and welding metal weldments.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn and improve fabrication and welding skills.
  • Experience working in a production metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum.
  • Experience with Flux-Core welding (FCAW).
  • Experience operating saws, plasma cutters, ironworkers, press brakes, shears, or similar fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with precision fabrication and tight dimensional tolerances.
  • Familiarity with welding procedures, weld specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic visual weld inspections.
  • Previous experience working from engineered drawings or customer-specific designs.
  • Formal welding training or welding certifications.
  • Previous experience with overhead crane, hoist, or material-handling equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed.
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work in various positions.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and equipment as required by the position.
  • Ability to safely handle metal components, tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, dust, heat, and varying temperatures while using required protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication instructions.
  • Accurately measure, mark, lay out, cut, fit, tack, and weld metal components.
  • Fabricate weldments according to drawings, specifications, and required dimensions.
  • Perform MIG and Stick welding on various metal components and assemblies.
  • Use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and other measuring and layout tools accurately.
  • Identify potential fabrication, fit-up, or dimensional issues before completing the weldment.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions from management, leads, and engineering personnel.
  • Operate common fabrication equipment and hand tools safely and properly.
  • Perform grinding, cutting, drilling, and other finishing operations as required.
  • Inspect completed work for proper dimensions, fit, appearance, and overall quality.
  • Make necessary adjustments or corrections to ensure the finished product meets specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Communicate effectively regarding questions, problems, material concerns, or drawing discrepancies.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Properly use all required PPE.
  • Follow safe welding, cutting, grinding, and material-handling practices.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to help prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and securing materials.
  • Report safety hazards, incidents, near misses, and equipment concerns promptly.
  • Never bypass or remove machine guards or other safety devices.
  • Ask questions when unsure about a procedure, drawing, material, or safe method of completing a task.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment for themselves and their coworkers.
