Position Summary The Shop Floor Welder 3, performs code-compliant welding and fabrication work in support of manufacturing and service projects. This role follows approved welding procedures, produces components to engineering requirements. The Certified Welder is accountable for a safe work environment, high first pass yield quality, productivity, equipment care, and active participation in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Commitment to quality and safety.
  • Current or previously held AWS D1.1 welding qualification, with the ability to successfully complete company-required qualification testing.
  • Technical welding certificate or equivalent combination of training and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW processes.
  • Ability to meet required inspection and non-destructive testing acceptance criteria, when applicable.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of welding materials, fabrication tools, measuring equipment, and safe machine operation.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality orientation, time management, and sense of urgency.
  • Stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
  • Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Prompt, punctual, and regular attendance during core business hours, including a reliable means of transport to and from work.
  • All employees are accountable for safety and health and are empowered to stop work if an unsafe condition is present.
  • Employees should immediately notify their supervisor so that the hazard may be corrected.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three years of related welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Laser welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety policies, job hazard controls, and required personal protective equipment standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; identify hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist.
  • Follow approved welding procedure specifications and applicable AWS, AISC, customer, and company requirements.
  • Support required inspections and promptly address identified nonconformances.
  • Perform certified welding using GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW processes in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
  • Fit, tack, weld, laser, and fabricate assemblies from engineered drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Fabricate or repair components when drawings are unavailable, using approved direction and accurate field measurements.
  • Complete technical welding documentation accurately and assist in identifying the correct welding procedure when requirements are unclear.
  • Perform rework and fabrication repairs using approved methods while protecting safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Apply laser welding experience when appropriate and when qualified.
  • Verify material, dimensions, joint preparation, fit-up, weld size, and finished work against drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain high workmanship standards and consistently produce conforming work that meets inspection requirements.
  • Escalate drawing, fit-up, material, or process discrepancies before proceeding, and collaborate on an approved resolution.
  • Use measuring and inspection tools correctly and protect traceability of materials and completed work.
  • Safely operate welding and laser equipment once trained and authorized.
  • Perform required pre-use inspections and routine operator maintenance on welding and laser equipment.
  • Report damaged, unsafe, or malfunctioning equipment promptly and remove it from service when required.
  • Use Lean manufacturing tools, standard work, visual controls, and problem-solving practices in daily work.
  • Plan work, manage time, and maintain pace to achieve production goals without compromising safety or quality.
  • Identify waste, recurring defects, workflow constraints, and improvement opportunities; participate in corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with labor-hour and material estimates by providing accurate feedback based on actual work performed.
  • Use materials responsibly and support scrap steel segregation and control.
  • Assist with steel, welding consumable, and supply inventory to maintain availability and prevent unnecessary waste.
  • Store and handle base materials, filler metals, and consumables in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Project Management, and other departments to resolve issues and meet customer commitments.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned
