About The Position

Cox Fleet Services is hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic I for a dedicated on-site shop position, focusing on maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This role involves performing DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and light repairs, with opportunities to learn advanced skills under supervision. The ideal candidate will comply with company policies and achieve high performance metrics.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
Up to 2 years' experience in a related field
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
Safe drivers needed and 3 YR MVR review required.
Candidate must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.
Must be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Perform DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, and light repairs on trailers.
Perform repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
Assist higher-level technicians with advanced repairs and diagnosis.
Determine and obtain necessary parts for repairs.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Assess customer needs and provide assistance or resolve issues.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks and prioritize work.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and follow-up repairs.
Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued device and/or Karmak application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within Standard Repair Times.
Communicate with Shop Manager and support team for approvals and discussions on repair estimates.
Comply with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Participate in and complete all company-required safety training.
Maintain assigned service trucks, conducting safety checks and pre/post trip inspections.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including steering systems.
Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
