The Opportunity Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our team in Washougal, Washington. As the Shop Technician, you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment or diesel equipment
  • Experience with Caterpillar equipment strongly preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing complete equipment and component rebuilds
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, lifting devices, and power tools
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components
  • Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision
  • Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components
  • Documenting repairs and communicating job progress, issues, and status to management
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving during the rebuild process
  • Cross-training in other departments and perform additional duties or job functions as needed
