About The Position

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for the efficiency, quality in production, and overall performance of the departments they oversee. This role involves developing, implementing, and promoting procedures and strategies to maintain a safe, healthy, and positive working environment. The supervisor will lead and provide management support and oversight for employees, ensuring planning and communication to meet operational goals. Key duties include ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, collaborating with other managers, verifying time sheets, inspecting products for quality, conducting employee reviews, assessing and holding employees accountable for safety and performance, managing training programs, creating production readiness packets, presenting improvement projects, reviewing and updating processes, monitoring job times, adjusting kanban numbers, collecting and analyzing production data, managing time off requests to ensure adequate staffing, and upholding 5S standards.

Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and promotes procedures and strategies to maintain a safe, healthy and positive working environment for the departments they oversee.
Lead and provide management support and oversight for employees at all levels in their departments.
Ensures planning & communication to ensure operational goals are met in the departments they oversee.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices including those related to safety and health.
Collaborates with managers and supervisors to coordinate activities in and among departments.
Verify, initiate necessary corrections and sign off on employee time sheets for the assigned departments that don’t have a Line Manager.
Regularly inspects and evaluates products for quality and defects.
Initiates quarterly and yearly reviews for employees for Line Managers and for employees absent a Line Manager of the assigned departments.
Assess & holds employees accountable for safety, performance, and attendance in collaboration with HR.
Reports employee issues to the Plant Manager and escalates them to HR when necessary.
Initiate conversations with Plant Manager regarding promotion / demotion of employees.
Manage the 3 x 3 training for their departments and create goals for employees to better themselves.
Create, and assess packets for the floor reviewing the BOM and long leads to ensure everything is ready to start / continue production.
Presents a minimum of one project per month to the Plant Manager which improves on or assists with lean or time reduction in the build / production process.
Review processes and procedures for each section of the department and update with any changes or time study changes to BOM costing.
Monitor and assess total time on jobs daily to ensure orders are on track for the allotted build hours.
Review kanban numbers and adjust with inventory control where necessary.
Collects, evaluates, analyzes, tracks, and assesses production data (including rework documentation) to report and provide answers on KPI’s and QC at the Gemba Board discussions.
Manage time off requests ensuring: Minimum of 90% workforce scheduled in departments and maintain a 3x3 Matrix reflecting back-up plans for production amidst employee absences.
Ensures 5S standards are upheld.
