About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking a skilled Shop Supervisor to manage day-to-day operations of a department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures. The role involves overseeing employee performance, providing coaching, conducting evaluations, and assisting with onboarding and training. The supervisor will also expedite and prioritize shop orders, collaborate with other departments, ensure workplace safety and maintenance, identify opportunities for process improvement, resolve production or personnel issues, and ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members to achieve individual and collective goals.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent and active presence on the shop floor, spending approximately 2/3 of the shift overseeing operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
  • Able to adjust to changing priorities and unexpected challenges while maintaining productivity and focus.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work well with others and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, with a demonstrated ability to promote and enforce safety standards and practices.
  • Proficiency in performance management processes, including creating plans of action and conducting employee evaluations.
  • Highly detail-oriented, ensuring quality and precision in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the shift.
  • Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English and complete logs, documents, and reports accurately.

  • Preferred experience in one or more of the following areas: welding, metal fabrication, or machining.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures.
  • Oversee employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support team development and productivity.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees, as well as provide ongoing education and skill development for the team.
  • Expedite and prioritize shop orders through the department to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Ensure the team maintains machines and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner, addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Address and resolve production or personnel issues promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.
