About The Position

HOLT CAT is hiring a heavy construction equipment Shop Service Technician 4 for our Irving, Texas location. The Shop Service Technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy construction equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. This is a mid-level position, generally requiring more than seven years of experience and/or demonstrated job-relevant knowledge/skills. A Level IV Technician possesses broad knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. They rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks. This role is self-starting and requires minimal supervision, often serving as a team member on large projects. Our location is 3131 State Highway 161, Irving, Texas 75062. The working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of diesel-powered heavy construction equipment repair experience preferred
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
  • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
  • Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of aftertreatment systems and how to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair efficiently and safely.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems - CAT ET & CAT SIS
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Responsibilities

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented mentoring, and training to others
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
